I was just watching the movie, I Aim at the Stars, on TCM, about Werner von Braun, and remembered that , though they mentioned his name once or twice on the mini series,I dont think you ever see him. Kinda strange, isnt it, considering his contribution to the Apollo program....
shareThe main reason was that Von Braun just wasn't around the main Apollo program that much. He was down in Alabama developing the F-1 engines with his team most of the time.
shareThe most interesting part of Von Braun's struggle and story were mainly when he was competing to get his technology chosen for rockets instead of the Navy option, so it was before the space race really began.
I feel that, despite his huge importance to the space program, the miniseries worked better beginning as it did. I don't think it was an issue of not wanting to give credit to a German seeing how they portrayed Günter Wendt.
