why does everybody thinks that it´s better than te first?

I just don´t understand!!! Would anyone be so kind to explain me?
I grew up with Toy Story 1 and I think it´s one of the most beautiful motion pictures in the history of man kind. Then I heard that a second part was coming and I thought: "wow how wonderful!! yipee yay!!" and alll that stuff. But then I watched it, and I admit that I felt extremely disappointed with this film. I think it was sassy, I think it was extremely exagerated and too over-worked. I don´t know if the Spanish traduction (I´m mexican) gave me that impression, but I´m not satisffied with anything about this movie.

I think it's better than the first due to having new characters, just as many laughs as the first and *SPOILER ALERT* a moving back-story about Jessie.

You wrote this before part 3 was even out but ill say why I liked part 2 more. I saw all 3 when released and I just watched 1 & 2 back to back as well. While part one was great it lacked the heart part 2 had. I feel like part 2 is great cause part one laid out such an interesting start for it. I loved that in part 2 all the toys were united. You could tell they all truly cared about each other starting with the yard sale rescue. As the movie continues each toy has a much bigger role this time around. The world around them becomes larger as well and the new characters are interesting. Jessie flashback scene is just so beautiful and it makes you reflect on your own toys that you've grown out of. The first one never really had us experience how toys feels tbe way part 2 did. Throwing in the extra buzz was also funny. It was great to see all the characters work together. Im also a sucker for the close out song sang by the penguin. You've got a friend in me...

quick mention on part 3 which is amazing as well. That movie was great because part 1 and 2 laid out such a beautiful story and part 3 just brought it home perfectly.

I know this is an ancient subject, but...

My opinion on why ts2 doesn't work as well as the original is quite personal to me, and others might consider it nitpicking.

The reason I don't think it is as good is the toys have too much interaction with the 'real' world. In ts1, the presence of the toys is largely 'invisible' until the climax with Sid. In ts2, they are destroying toy stores, causing car crashes, all sort of things.

It took the premise less from fantasy and more into reality, and that is what disagreed with me.

Oh, and I got sick of air vents by the end of it.

The whole thing is a work of true genius - simple as that. It works on every possible level. Children understand the quite complex themes on their level as do adults. The film references are subtle but obvious and the Randy Newman songs are fantastic.

Probably due to a lot more going on and more of the toys were active.
However I like the first better too.

Well, then let me explain to you...
I am a big fan of 'Toy Story' but whenever I watch the first movie, I feel as if I am distinctly watching a kids film- a great roaring adventure with some excellent comedy- watch out the scene when Woody is waving Buzz's broken arm which had me in splits- but yes, great stuff but essentially catering to the kids.
What I mean to say is that it is a great movie but it somehow does not feel very deep...i mean it is pretty straight.

Toy Story 2 along with part 3 are way, way better and amazing in many ways because they explore the story more. They deal with very realistic things- like how does a toy feel to be shelved...how does it feel when it has not been played for years and to be with kids. These sequels gave a whole new voice to the toys. When, in part 2, Woody initially rejects Buzz's offer of rescue, it means that Woody is actually interested in living in a museum because he had been shelved by Andy because of his damage. That shows how the toys have a perspective- a point of view and that was what was missing in part 1.

Look, dont get me wrong, I loved the first movie but the sequels are totally something else- something close to masterpiece territory. I have no issues with the extra characters- l rather like Jessie a lot, to be frank, i liked the Buzz twist a lot and as for the Prospector, he was a far more realistic and well-rounded villain than Sid, who IMO was just a bully...

I also hated Toy Story 2, I loved the first one so much as a kid and watched it many times but the sequel was just the same story again and I hated Jesse so much. None of the new characters were good. I didn't even watch it until many years later. The first one was so great and different and so funny but the second just was retreading the same thing and not as funny. I remember a girl in my film class who came from another high school said when the teacher said something about how sequels are never as good as the original and she said "but toy story 2 is better than 1" and I just had to refrain from shouting at her. To me it's just not, it's just terrible. Unneeded and so was the third which I watched today and preferred it a bit over 2 but didn't like that Jesse was still there and probably on laughed a couple times. They really do not need a fourth. It's getting worse than Shrek did.

Toy Story 1 is fun. Toy Story 2 is fun but also an emotional rollercoaster, you can't watch it a hundred times like the first movie XD

It's too low. I mean, both part 1 and 3 have a 8.3 rating, but part 2 has a 7.9. It's unfair. It's as good as them.

Toy Story 2 in my opinion is the best one. My rankings go 2 > 1 > 3. What I liked best about the 2nd one is that you can totally understand where Jessie and Stinky Pete are coming from when they want Woody to go to the museum and at one point I was like "yeah Woody should go to the museum." What ultimately makes Stinky Pete a villain however is that he forces his way of thinking onto others. Also I know that new characters can often derail a franchise but I actually thought Joan Cusack did a good job and Bullseye is probably my favorite character.
