What if Emily was Andy's Mom?

What if this imagined scene was in the movie?

When Andy arrives home and sees the new toys, namely Jessie and the others he shows his mom the Jessie doll.
His Mom's eyes light up and she says;
"Oh MY! It's a Jessie the cowgirl doll!! I had one when I was your age!"
And starts to reminisce about the fun she had with her.
Jessie realises who it is and quietly whispers "Emily!"
(WE never did get to know the name of Andy's mom, sooo...)

Emily/Mom: Did you speak my name son?
Andy: Uh, no...
Emily/Mom: Oh, it must've been my imagination.

And she goes on again about her favorite doll and how she outgrew her and gave her away (all the while Jessie's song 'When she loved me.' plays softly in the background) and she gets misty-eyed.

Andy: Mom...are you crying?
Emily/Mom:(white lies)>sniff< N-no, it's just that now I realise that I didn't think back then that someday I'd have kids of my own and I should have kept her for them (all the while Jessie's fighting tears).
Emily/Mom: (cheers up) Well, that doesn't matter because she's back now...and she's all yours. And gives her back to Andy.

Then as Andy and his mom go downstairs Jessie jumps up and hysterically screeches; "WOODY!! BUZZ!! EVERYONE!! Did you hear?"

Buzz: We heard Jessie! Emily, your old owner, is Andy's mom!

Woody: It looks like you've come home after all, Jessie.

Bursting into tears Jessie throws herself into Woody's arms and as he pats her on the back and gently says; "Welcome home Jessie...welcome home." the camera zooms into an extreme close-up of Jessie's tearful happy face as her song comes to an end.

but Emily didn't want Jessie any more, she gor rid of her, So why would she be thrilled to see her again? i doubt they are the same person. Andy's mom seems to have a feeling for Woody as ab old family toy, if she is that sort of person she would be unlikely to have got rid of Jessie.

The whole mom is Emily or mom should have been Emily is silly.

I re-read the thread and kind of agree that it would be an interesting twist. In retrospect, some people change. Embarrassing admission coming up:

I'm 65, and about 60 years ago, I wanted and received for Christmas a Mr. Machine robot toy. I had it many years and when I was about 10 or so and outgrew it, my buddy and I just broke it apart and I did so with no sense of loss.

Fast forward many years and I recall that toy, and NOW I regret destroying it. Sure, it probably would have been tossed out when I was older or before I moved out, but I would have loved to have had that Mr. Machine to give to my son when he was a boy.

So yes, I've changed my position on this. Emily turned into a young lady who started listening to records and dreaming of the cute boy in her class - she might easily have discarded Jessie, and even if Emily was not Andy's mom, we don't know that one day Emily might have regretted giving up a beloved toy like she did.

Yeah, I had to get rid of most of my old toys when we moved out of our childhood home.
Even though I was thirtyfive years old, that stings a bit when I think about it.

I think there's that window when we start becoming adults when we lose any sentimentality over childhood toys and then reacquire the sentimentality as we get older - at least that's the way it happened for me.

Back in the late 90s, I found on ebay an original Ms. Beazley doll (from TV show Family Affair) that my wife had when she was a little girl (I had seen a picture of her and her sister as little girls holding them). She was absolutely thrilled with it and it sits on a tiny rocker to the side of our fireplace still. I had asked her what happened to the original doll she and her sister had, and neither she nor my sister in law remember what happened to them. As they turned from little girls to teenage girls, the interest just went away.
