The only FACT of the Matter is he gave it to her. Once you give something to somebody it's Theirs PLAIN and Simple. There was no contractual signing or anything like that. The item was giving to her and remained in her possession for decades there for yes it was hers.

Collecting insurance on an object (which Cal's father did) forfeits your right to said object. You can't have both the money and the object.
