the greediest wife ever *spoilers*

In the beginning of the movie, she looked really sweet and honest. But then, after she knows her husband found that ransom money in the crashed plane, she shows her true colors. What a greedy woman! I mean, whoever hatches up a plan from her hospital bed after having her first child to frame someone on tape to make sure to keep the money for themselves??? And in the end, when her husband decides to get rid of the money by burning it, she tries to stop him because she wants them to keep it all. Seems like she was very greedy, she always had an excuse for her hubby when he found himself in hot water. She came up with most lies he told, and she's the one who found out about the fake FBI agent. What do you think?

She was not necessarily 'greedy' in the strict sense, but very intelligent :) (me like ) Morally flexible/questionable, maybe so.

It was all about circumstances. Clearly, she wasn't doing everything you (correctly) accused her of just for herself.

I think its really easy to judge her from an external point of view.
But thats also the underlying moral of the movie: normal people would do terrible things due to greed, money corrupts body and soul. In a way it tries to explain our society's state: money talks and B.S walks! It makes people evil and ready for anything...
So yeah, to come back to the subject i would say we shouldnt judge the wife so harshly. She maybe came up with some ideas but at least didn't kill anybody. From this point of view, Paxton's the real evil, he killed like 4 people through the hole flick to keep his secret, even his OWN BROTHER! So the wife's greedy, yeah, but not more than any other protagonist of the story.
Furthemore, at the beginning she didn't want to keep the money but since your husband convinced you and you accepted the idea of being rich, it's really really hard to backtrack i'd say...

So thats my opinion!

Agree to some extent. However, after having a baby, probably the most momentous event in a woman's life, she appeared to give priority to scheming as to how to keep the money thereby reducing her new baby to "also ran" status.

Sometimes having the hope of a better life, which is then taken away, is worse than never having had that hope.

She got a chance to envision a life with that much money - it affected her, as it would many of us.

Any mother/father who cares so much more for the money than the baby should be shot.

Did you see how she reacted to the 'used' bear gift she got? Ouch! I think it was more than just circumstances taking place.

I agree 100%. Sarah's immoral and unethical character was immediately brought out by the money (even as she holds their new baby). She, in my opinion, was the most despicable of all the characters...which is interesting, since she never lifted a finger to commit murder! Sarah was the manipulative "Oz" behind the curtain. This is not to say that her husband isn't accountable for his idiotic, selfish actions. Hank also displayed terrible, immoral character - after all, true character is reflected in what we actually do, rather than what we say we would do. Situations like this bring out the real person within; in the end, Hank and Sarah were the most loathsome characters of all.

And they were new parents. Ugh. Apparently, in the book, Hank is even more evil. That would be just too depressing to read.

I think she was greedy, but in a very relateble human way. When she gives that speech about burning the money and going back their old lives, always struggling, never having the nicer things of life, stuck in a dead end boring job I saw where she was coming from. We all need something good to look forward to in life. When you see your depressing future stretched out in front of you, with nothing on the horizon to keep your spirits up, I think greed is easy to succumb too.Especially if you think your child will be going down the same path.

Not that any of this excuses her actions (or hanks and jacobs) but as another poster said having your hope taken away is worse than never having any hope at all.

It's supposed to show the power of money. Bridget did a fantastic job

Through the whole movie, she just looks 'soft'. Some old fashioned gauzing on the camera taking place.

Cut to any male actor and they are sharp as tacks.

Back to Fonda, filming through the smoke again.

But yeah, she sure did let her dark side come out. Hank should have just kept his promise to begin with.

The point was to show that a normal person could become sociopathic given the circumstances (like the Stanford Prison Experiment) for example.

Who knows. Maybe Sarah is just average and theres millions of other wives out there who would do even worse things.

They were all greedy. If the greediest is because you are smart, sure you can count her and then her husband in that order. Personally being less smart doesn't automatically make you less guilty.

She was greedy, but she was also trying to protect her husband. having a baby doesn't make her less greedy and it shouldn't make her stop trying to protect her husband.

I think the way it was presented in this movie, that most folks could end up in a similar situation, especially if they could really use the money. There is a reason that the poorer the neighborhood the more the violence. People in general are greedy. Some of that is survival and providing for yourself and family and some is just plain greed.
