Three Kings or Jarhead?

Three Kings hands down!

reply

Definitely Three Kings. Jarhead sucked ass.

reply

Agreed. Jarhead sucked. Three Kings wins just for sheer entertainment reasons.

reply

THREE KINGS, no contest (although JARHEAD did have the best depiction of a "Dear John" letter I have ever seen!!!!! As the DIs used to tell us recruits in Marine Corps boot camp, "Jody's got your girl and gone!!").

reply

Jarhead's first half felt too much like Full Metal Jacket and its secind half too much like any other war film I've ever seen in my life. Three Kings is an original, powerful and sometimes hilarious movie.

reply

You all have to be kidden me?!?!? this movie was OK - at best. But Jarhead, now that was a masterpiece. Its prolly the best "war-like-film" ive ever scene. it concentrates more on the acual people in war instead of all the violence about war. theres much more to it than that, but until you can even grasp that concept, then no your still not gonna like the movie, and you'll still say it "sucked ass".

reply

"Aint no point in coming home

aint no use in feelin blue,
Jody's got her sister too"

haha yeah classic.

reply

One is about the army the other about marines... very different

both good movies but JARHEAD is just so good and intense...Both are hilarious, and Three kings has the satire edge that jarhead doesn't have... but Jarhead is more of a coming of age film, and very intelligent and beautifully shot.

"Freedom? This isnt about freedom If Im gonna get my balls blown off for a word,my word is poontang"

reply

Jarhead was a major waste of perfectly good 35mm film.

Three kings, no question about it!

reply

i have no desire to see Jarhead...Three Kings is great...you know what Three Kings has that Jarhead doesn't?...Spike Jonze and Jamie Kennedy...i think i've made my point...

reply

Three Kings is slightly better.

If you can't say anything nice, then you've come to the right place.

reply

Three Kings is way way better than Jarhead! Jarhead was dissapointing(not bad though) and three kings was excellent.

Three Kings just shades it but both are quality films

Jarhead hands down! Three Kings was just mainstream entertainment. I dont mean to p*ss anyone off but I honestly think that America (in general) just didnt get Jarhead.
Jarhead is an amazing look at a personal war, it depicts the Gulf War pretty well in that it was a very machine led "computer war". It touches upon so many issues that Three Kings doesnt even attempt. I guess it is more 'art-house'-esque than Three Kings but this is not the reason why I prefer it. I just think that Jarhead gives a better insight into the Gulf War and it doesnt sacrafice an honest attempt at the construction of history for the sake of entertainment and political correctness.

I really dont want to start another US/UK arguement cos its POINTLESS!!! If your gonna reply to this please be constructive and not just bitchy!

reply

I wouldn't call Three Kings mainstream entertainment but I agree Jarhead was more personal. But then it was all told from one mans perspective

Three Kings is a better film. Jarhead was up its own ass. Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, Apocolypse Now all focused on the soldiers but were far more inspired. Three Kings is mainly just a very entertaining movie. That isn't to say it should be written off as a mainstream hollywood action film. Though it is mostly light entertainment, the editing and the use of colour are fantastic. Jarhead was exhausting. I know there are many of you who will disagree and say that I just didn't get it, but believe me I got it. I'm just a bit unsympathetic of Gulf war soldiers.

reply

"I'm just a bit unsympathetic of Gulf war soldiers."

Prick.

reply

That pretty much sums it up...

reply

Prick... yeah, I'll give you that. I admit I have absolutely no right to feel unsympathetic, I just do. I admit that my perspective on the war is limited to that of a civilian. But we did screw Saddam out of getting Kuwait, which we kind of owed him. And more people would have died just from common accidents like car wrecks and whatnot had all the troops been kept home. So yeah, I guess I'm still a prick- sorry.

reply

Have you been reading up on Baudrillard? "more people would have died just from common car accidents". That really isnt the point. From watching Jarhead you should understand that its not about the statistics its about the psychological damage that was caused BECAUSE there was next to no action. What most soldiers seen was the aftermath and that could have been worse than the "action" or combat itself. Your entitle to your opinion and as a civilian you have no immediate connection which is fair enough but you should show some compassion for Gulf War soldiers they are war heroes despite the fact whether they "fought" or not.

reply

Yeah, I was just being an a**hole. I understand full well the causes for the trauma. I'd make a pretty crap soldier tell you the truth so I'm damn glad there are others to get the job done. Please ignore my ignorant comments- I swear I'm not ignorant, just a prick as we established. PS- I was only pretending to have read up on Baudrillard. In fact, I was just drawing from an excerpt in one of my IR books! As much as you may not like me you gotta appreciate my honesty! PPS- I was just taking a piss that whole time PPPS- this is the first time I deliberately started an IMDB message board battle and I'm ending it because they're lame and the thought of people thinking I actually support those views in real life is just too depressing.

PPPPS it seems just about anyone can be a hero these days

that was the last one I swear.... it's over... sorry

reply

OK! Most people agree Three Kings was a better FILM

HOWEVER- If youve ever been in the military, Jarhead was much more realistic and being able to relate to the characters experiences make it more enjoyable to watch

reply

i agree with SEALguy, Three Kings is a much better FILM, very entertaining.

three kings.

although the soundtrack in jarhead is well put together

reply

Are you kidding me?! Three Kings ftw, hands down.

reply

In my honest opinion, I found Three Kings was predictable. I knew who was going to die and who was going to live, I knew how the characters would end up reacting to certain situations, and I knew how it was going to end. Jarhead, however, I couldn't predict, so my vote goes to Jarhead.

Don't get me wrong, though, I loved Three Kings, and think it's an awesome movie. The acting was great, George Clooney is my favorite actor, and I love how it actually addresses the lethality of bullets, but it just felt more fabricated than Jarhead, and I wasn't guessing correctly in Jarhead.

But, if this was a debate over which was a better movie about The Gulf War, I'd say Three Kings. Jarhead focused more on the soldiers, rather than the actual conflict.

reply

The only similarity between Jarhead and Three Kings is theyre both picturing Iraq. And of course you cannot compare them! Jarhead is about the life of a soldier on the war, fighting against his own mind, and Three Kings - about a bunch of criminals wearing military uniform in a war zone. I'd compare it to Buffalo Soldiers...and still Three Kings wins

reply

Three Kings. Jarhead was Horrible. It was billed as a war movie but all I saw was a bunch of party frat boys cursing with what seemed to be non-stop nudity and sex. I dont mind and can enjoy the Hard R movie when it Adds to a good story. There was nothing too jarhead. it was lame. And as for calling Jarhead Indie and Three Kings Mainstream, what are you smoking? Jarhead was VERY mainstream. If anything, more mainstream than Three Kings. The difference is that Three Kings focused on story and made it entertaining, just what Jarhead was missing...
