Sometimes it's pro-war propaganda, sometimes it's anti-war propaganda. But always a pro american soldier propaganda.
Either they starts as good guys and ends up heroes. Or they start as not so good guys and redeems themselves someway. And usually this doesn't happen with enemies soldiers.
The most recent movie that tried to deal with what real soldiers are like was Platoon.
I would usually say that, but with this film they try to flesh out the one Iraqi soldier we really get time to talk to. We see why he's fighting, and the damage the war has done to his family. It even helps change the way one of our main characters sees the war, and commits to helping the refugees--this is not black and white pro-American propaganda. They can't flesh out every character, sadly, but they did make an effort here!

Like most movies, it's basically liberal propaganda. If I were as immature as them I would rate movies bad due to it, as they would ANY right-leaning movie.
share"like most movies"? could you back that up somehow? maybe start by defining "propaganda" and then show us how this film fits that universally accepted definition? or, show us an example of a "right-leaning movie" that you mention, please.
it's a bit frustrating every time someone shouts "propaganda" at a film they don't like, or when they make blanket statements based on mere opinion as some kind of rock solid fact.
this is the IMDB, after all, and most people here are here because they DO understand film language, film theory, editing, directing, cinematography, etc. I question your motivation here, and wonder if you have an axe to grind because maybe a favorite film of yours was poorly rated?
honestly, I saw this film as humanizing those involved in the first Gulf War, while shining a light on the folly of war in general. I'm sorry, but that's not simply a "liberal" ideal here; most humans tend to agree that war is stupid and its consequences are truly horrible for ALL involved. so, let us NOT confuse the personal politics of the actors here with their characters. just because George Clooney is in a war film does not automatically make it "liberal propaganda".
All you need to see is Clooney's name and propaganda and pretentiousness will follow.
