Blade Runner References/Connections

Ok, I've heard that this movie has several references and connections to Blade Runner. I must have missed some. Can anyone enlighten me?

If I remember correctly when it goes through Todd's service record it lists both Tannhäuser Gate and Shoulder of Orion in his file, which is mentioned in Roy's fantastic speech near the end. I'm not sure of others though I wouldn't be surprised of finding more. The writer David Pebbles also wrote Blade Runner and considers it a side sequel taking place in the same universe, noting that the vehicle spinners are used in both.

Ok, cool. I remember the Spinners in both. Wasn't sure about the rest.

It's in the trivia, not very many references

Upon release, David Webb Peoples has said that he has meant it to be a side-quel to Blade Runner. It is quite possible that Todd has fought alongside some of the replicants at some point in that universe.

This would make Blade Runner 2049 actually the third movie taking place in the Blade Runner movie. (Soldier takes place at 2040 at the latest, so at least 9 years before the upcoming Blade Runner movie. If this movie would've been more successful, it might have been the first shared universe... However, Blade Runner does not have a reputation of being well received at first.

To be honest, I do see some parallels to Blade Runner. For instance, Caine 607's unit are more like Replicants. Todd is definitely human, just conditioned to be a killing machine.

It would have been great if they had made this as a sequel to "Blade Runner," with more direct connections. That certainly would have gotten more fan interest at the time.

In addition to Blade Runner references, I was able to detect quite a lot of similarities and references to other sci-fi and action movies including but not limited to the likes of Universal Soldier, Total Recall, Escape From New York and Escape from LA Kurt Russell movies, Arnold Schwarzenegger's Commando, Starship Troopers, Star Wars and Star Trek, Tango and Cash, Timecop, RoboCop, and several others, and yet I still found this to be a flawed but just about decent to solid and enjoyable guilty pleasure late 90s sci-fi big budget action trash movie. And about 6.5 if not 7 I will give it, even though it is flawed and also undeniably highly derivative, but still enjoyable and fun and even spectacular in segments too. And I actually consider this to be Paul WS Anderson's best film, which isn't really saying much, but he did a good job overall here.
