Stabbing through the bathroom stall

Is this even possible?

It was a fun movie with some great ideas and scenes, but that made me cringe when I first saw it. It's one of the most implausible death scenes in cinema.

I have no problem with him stabbing through the stall, my problem is why the hell Phil giggled and even wanted to listen to whatever was going on in the stall.

Yes, it was very coincidental that Phil did exactly what Ghostface wanted, but I don't see that as a big issue. Ghostface was just improvising, his entire plan did not rely on Phil doing that.

MY problem with that scene is why Ghostface would kill Phil with the stall door open while other people were in the bathroom. This was not the same situation as with Maureen, and he would've been trapped if those people had heard or seen something.

I always wondering that myself.Either the stalls where made of paper.Or that was some terrible knife.

hey some people actually believe jill and charlie would have been capable of the kills in scream 4

reply

And why not?
What does size have anything to do with it?

See: Scream 2

Mrs Loomis overtook a 20 year old 6ft + grown man....and killed him

And Billy and Stu were skinny geeks in the first movie

My problem is more with how would he have known where Phil put his head? He just randomly stabs into the wall and it just so happens it was where Phil placed his head.

As for Maureen's death it was just a clever death since so many people were wearing the mask so it was very easy for him to kill and just walk away or even take the mask off. And since everyone was going crazy and paying more attention to the screen than anything else they didn't notice the murder going on. It also helped out so much that people were also "stabbing" each other with fake knives he was able to get away easier.

Dragonzord! Mastodon! Pterodactyl! Triceratops! Saber Toothed Tiger! Tyrannosaurus!

Ghostface could've been standing on the toilet to see where Phil's head was. That's less of an issue for me.

Well yeah, I didn't have a problem with Maureen's death. Phil's murder was much more risky in that regard.

Four improbabilities:

1. A brotha to put his ear and face on a nasty ass men's stall wall.

2. A straight guy to be interested in giggling coming from a men's stall.

3. A knife going through a metal or 1.25 inch laminated MDF board.

4. The stabbed to know when, where to place the knife for a perfect shot.

5. Someone to be waiting in a specific stall for him before he left for the bathroom allowing the killer to take his seat in the theater.

I agree about this kill.. and many other implausible scenarios in this film. This film (and series) takes suspension of disbelief to a whole other level.

What I love about this scene is even now in bathroom stalls I remember this and get creeped out that a knife may come through it.

I agree it sounds odd a knife could do that but I love the scene anyway.

reply

The stall could have been made of plastic

reply

I was thinking sheet metal. Apply plenty of torque to a small area, can bash it in.

reply

Haven't you guys seen movies? I've seen ghost face and Michael Myers stab through doors, which is probably thicker than a bathroom stall

reply

Ghostface only completely stabbed through a door once (also in this installment)

Michael Myers has 'superhuman strength', well above the 'heightened strength' that Ghostface possesses; he can do a LOT more than stab through a door

I'll take a potato chip...and EAT IT!!

I believe Wes Craven wanted all the deaths to be ridiculous in this one because it was supposed to be a parody of horror sequels. Horror sequels usually have to make the deaths more crazy with more blood so I think Wes was taking that idea and made it over the top with kills that could never really happen. So could a killer stab someone through a bathroom door? Well no, probably not but I think that's the point.

And yet… the kills are much tamer in this one. Nothing in 2 compares to Casey and Steve getting terrorised and gutted in the opening of 1.
