Jada's death was as disturbing as Drew's to me!

Now Drew's death in the original might have been scarier, since she was all alone and since she barely misses her parents and still gets killed when they are inside, but Jada's (Maureen) was equally disturbing.

All of the people cheering as she's getting stabbed for real, and them not knowing it.

That one woman who notices the blood on her arm and suspects something is up (Great touch from Kevin and Wes!).

Also, on the third stabbing, there's this blond haired woman watching it and cheering it on like it's part of the show, not to mention that blonde with the fake knife running around them and past the camera.

And of course, the final stab where the killer has to pull very hard to get the knife out of Jada's back, and the sound effect it makes.

Other than the nonsensical killing method of Omar's character Phil (Looked great but really made little sense lol), this was a great opening and very clever!

Poor old Maureen.

She just wanted to study.

She had a bio due.

Sandra Bullock was playing right down the street.

She hates scary movies.

Her haircut was very manly.

She tried to get away from Mickey but he caught up with her and kept shish kebab'ing her.

The whole part with Mickey disguised as Phil sitting down next to her.

In Collateral Jada did a better job of screaming / acting as the damsel in distress - must have been the hair.

Ooh! Mickey was sitting in a car taping Maureen talking to Phil and queuing for the film. That's creepy.

Whilst I cared more for poor, blonde Casey getting gutted like a fish, Maureen's fight to stay alive is also affecting.

Poor Maureen we saw all her murder. And boy was it painful.

I imagine getting a knife shoved through your ear through a toilet stall is pretty painful too.

I would imagine being stabbed in the ear, regardless of your location, would be painful, period.

I feel like Drew's will always be a standout but Jada's was just as big because of everything you said. It really is disturbing on another level because she is getting gutted right in front of all these people.

Yes, This! In my opinion, Drew's scene is oscar-worthy. But Jada's is just as effective in a creepy way.

I agree, it's an extremely effective opening to the movie. And I feel really sorry for her.

No way. Casey’s ordeal is much more prolonged, painful and gruesome, starting with the slow psychological torture, then having to witness her boyfriend gutted right in front of her, then being terrorised around the house, then stabbed, then having her voice box crushed so she can’t call her parents for help, then more stabbings followed by being strung up and having her belly slashed, spilling her steaming intestines on the ground.

Maureen just gets four nasty stab wounds to the abdomen plus the inability to scream for help in a room full of people fake-screaming. It’s a nasty way to go, but not nearly as awful as what Casey has to endure.
