The 3:30 movie

A long time ago the local station, when there was no baseball game or something like that, used to show a movie at 3:30 in the afternoon. If it were in English this film would be perfect for that. No violence, no nudity, just a lot of people concerned and looking oh so serious about something the viewer couldn't care less about, or even fully understand. There are good people in it and they always take your attention, but the movie as a whole is as bland and trite as can be.

I agree. The movie had a convoluted story that wouldn‘t even make sense. How was the exchange meant to work? In any event, it was soapy story.

Good to hear someone else sees it. Prost!

I loved this movie. It made perfect sense to me.

A woman (Deneuve) in her youth was involved in scamming precious diamond jewelry with her boyfriend who let her take the fall with their targeted client a jeweler. The betrayal was huge. In order to not go to prison, the jeweler marries her and drops the charges. A marriage with no love and a lover who betrayed her - she drinks - for years. This husband with his brother own a famous jewelry store in prestigious Place Vendome. They are going bankrupt and the husband somehow had ripped off the Russian mafia with precious diamonds and has them recut. He tries to sell them back to De Beers in London but they know he is the thief. He deliberately kills himself while driving. It is then that Deneuve has to figure out what to do and tries to sell the diamonds among the shady underworld of stolen gems. The police intervene and want to use her to set up this guy they have wanted for a long time and who turns out to be the guy who betrayed her twenty years ago. That’s the exchange. She’s wired. The two confront each other and their pasts in a hotel somewhere in Belgium. But she doesn’t follow through with the setup and hands him the diamonds instead and tells him to get out of town on the next train. Instead of running off, he turns himself in knowing he could be killed. Jacques Dutronc plays the guy. There’s an element of fear and suspense throughout the movie. But she is finally free and seemingly sober having come full circle. It’s great. So what didn’t you get. Probably it’s French. It’s very French.

Who knows anymore. Where were you 2 years ago? ;)

I thought I did write something about it but I don’t see anything - maybe it’s on Catherine Deneuve. I am actually surprised anybody saw the movie. And on regular TV. Maybe TV5Monde.

Someone saw it on TV?

reply

Where did you see this movie? I’m confused.

on DVD

reply

OK, but you mentioned in your original post, the local TV station movie at 330 and that if it was in English it would be better. So that’s why I thought you saw it on TV. It doesn’t really matter. It was a long time ago.

I saw it at Alliance Française. Anyway, now it’s on Kanopy free.

Perhaps you didn't read it carefully.
