I noticed that too...in my ongoing quest to acquire the Lawn Dogs DVD, which is sadly still missing from my DVD collection and is just about the only Sam Rockwell movie I haven't managed to see yet. I have no idea why this movie is being re-released, but I'm happy about it and I hope it's a good version :)

Got my copy today, It's good quality, EDITED (Sam Rockwell in pants etc, lol) no extras, dolby stereo and in 4:3 format. I originally thought it would be a complete crop from 16:9 but you you actually gain alot top and bottom and loose a little from the sides, not sure what it was filmed in.

I did a little compare pic for anyone interested, The picture qualilty is poor from resizing etc, only to show ratio. If you look you can't see any square stones/slabs in the widescreen image.

Thank you for your report. My copy is still in the mail ;) I admit that all my brain registered when i saw this message was "EDITED"... Noooooooooooo! If there's something I can't stand it's movies being edited/censored, there should be a law against that :p What, don't tell me they magically covered him up?? I hope not much else is changed since I haven't seen the movie before and therefore won't know if something is different. Yes, it's very clear from the comparison pic what's gained/lost.

So basically it's the kids-friendly version where people keep their underwear on and say 'son of a gun' instead of 'son of a bitch' (with a little help from ADR). I would like to own the other version but since it's so hard to get on dvd... And a lot of people would probably prefer the 16:9 format to 4:3.
I do absolutely love the movie though!

I own the original cinema club version. On the back of the DVD case it says:

"Video Aspect Ratio: Feature - 16:9"

"Dolby Surround"

"Feature Length: 97 mins"

On the new 2011 release. Amazon states that the running time is 94 minutes. Is this true? Can someone who's bought the 2011 release confirm this?

If it's true. 3 minutes have been cut from the new release.

So why has IMDb got it at 101 minutes?

Did you also watch it on tv in the uk duerden60?

Framerate differences between the US and UK. The US DVD framerate is 23.976 fps and the UK DVD framerate is 25fps, that means the US version has fewer frames per second, and therefore ends up longer.

I bought the newer release last week in the HMV sale and I'm really disappointed. Not only is it 4:3 but it's some kiddy friendly version with all the sex and nudity removed. The new cut of Trent's dive is awful too, switching from shots from the main version (sans nudity) to shots of him in underpants. It looks really messy.

Anyway, the main feature including credits clocks in at around 96.5 mins. Without credits it's 94 minutes - I don't know if this is where the confusion lies.

Can anyone confirm what the cinema club version has - is it equally some TV friendly effort?

The BBC in the UK show this fairly regularly and completely uncut. I have no idea why the DVD doesn't.

I'd return this if I hadn't bought it from the ailing HMV.

now that its 13 years later they should do a sequel with the theme reversed. Asume Pam got pregnant right before Trent left town. And 13 years later their son tries to befriend A now 24 year old Devon and makes her help him look for his father Trent. call it lawn dogs 2 and have the boy be a weekend lawn mower just like Trent was

After having previously bought a couple of newer/censored versions by mistake, I can confirm the 2004 UK (PAL Region 2) DVD release of Lawn Dogs (by Cinema Club) is definitely an uncensored version.

A little bit of technical information about the different releases can be seen here: https://www.blu-ray.com/Lawn-Dogs/140596/#Releases
It looks like the original 1998 US release and the 2014 Japanese release are 101 minutes long, whereas the rest of the regions are 97 minutes.

HOWEVER, as the US DVD framerate is 23.976 fps and the UK DVD framerate is 25fps, that means the US version has fewer frames per second, and therefore ends up longer.

97 minutes = UK version.
97x60 = 5,820 = Number of seconds in the UK version.
5820x25 = 145,500 = Number of frames in the film.
145500/23.976 = 6,069 = Number of seconds in US version
6069/60 = 101 minutes = US version

Hold the phone- PANTS? In what scene, the diving bit? Are they just CGI pants put over the top? Hilarious. I'm glad this film has had a new release but wish it hadn't been edited- it is never going to be a kids film even if there are no naked bums on display.

They shot alternate takes during shooting, there's no CGI censoring in the film. The same version was used for the rental UK VHS, and was the only version I'd seen for a long time. I actually prefer some of the changes in the censored version, including the scene where Devonc catches her mum with the jock in the kitchen.

Give a thousand monkeys a thousand laptops and they'd all be writing their stupid opinions on IMDB.

Watched this on BBC1-HD yesterday, It wasn't broadcast in HD but had Dolby Sound and a very good picture. The sound quality in particular was phenomenally better than the DVDs, I never realized how poor the audio transfer was on the cinema club dvd. Still no sign of any Blu-ray I see, shame..
