I think that Christine is far too good looking for Chad's plan

I'm watching the beginning again, where he's setting it up for Howard, how he wants some wallflower, someone for whom romance, dating, isn't even a possibility, etc.

Christine was totally hot. Deaf or not, she was a complete hottie (and still is - check her out in Superbad as Evan's mom). There would definitely be men taking her out, looking like she does.

Maybe that's right, but she doesn't know that. She hasn't been dating in quite a while. It's probably not the first time she's been hurt, and she's definitely not cut out for that.

"She hasn't been dating in quite a while."

I know they wrote the character this way. What I'm saying is that the actress they have playing the character is far too much of a babe to have this actually be true.

Sadly, if she really was ugly, she'd lose audience sympathy.

Probably true, but it takes away from the movie's credibility. Part of Chad's plan is because Howard is a schlub, while Chad is Aaron Eckhardt. They could have made her be not quite so babe-a-licious and pulled it off.

She is looks wise in the middle of the two men, and also has a disability. She is certainly not as attractive as Chad's girlfriend.

She was too good-looking for Chad's plan as he outlined it to Howard.

But Chad's REAL plan was to distract Howard in order to sabotage his position within their company. For that plan, Chad wanted someone that Howard (still vulnerable from a breakup) would ideally fall in love with, or at least like enough that he'd be tormented by his involvement in a plan to crush her spirit.

I thought Chad’s plan was to destroy Howard for his own amusement?

It's been awhile, but I think it was implied that Chad resented his former college buddy being promoted ahead of him. Howard was presented as being a pretty weak leader, so Chad likely had little respect for him. With Chad's macho talk about needing big balls to succeed in a company of men, he seemed to view the workplace as a dog-eat-dog competition. Purposely messing up the fax transmission would have been enough by itself to make Howard look incompetent, but Chad also made himself the hero by having a backup copy. So amusement may have been a big part of it, but eliminating a competitor was likely the main reason.
