Discrimination in Gattaca

I always thought the discrimination in Gattaca was purposefully overcooked for plot purposes. In the real world, even with valids and in-valids as two distinct social classes, not all in-valids would be janitors. There would be a whole host of different well paying jobs that they would be doing. Thereby not being condemned to a depressing future of low paying menial labor with zero hope of upward mobility.

Even in the case of Vincent, in reality he wouldn’t be rejected out of hand without further inquiry. His aptitude tests would catch the attention of the recruiters at Gattaca. He would have been qualified for a ground control position, if not the Astronaut he wanted to be due to his very real heart problems. A high-tech, eugenic future like the one portrayed in Gattaca with its well ordered society and impeccably maintained commons is something we should strive for, albeit with more realistic standards of “discrimination.”

No.

Her character had what they classed as 1 defect.

Vincent had a long list of them and based of there projections should not even still be alive.
