MASSIVE plot hole

So they are in Christines fake house about 1 hour 24 minutes into the film and they are getting shot at by random masked men outside. Obviously the bullets are real you can see holes being made in the wood and crap getting blown to pieces from the bullets. Seems like he could have easily been killed or seriously injured by this. Also you see them fire at the door lock and bits of wood and chunks go flying leaving massive damage to the door. Then they escape in the car and you can clearly see bullet holes being shot into the car roof and windows as they are driving off? so what the F?

Dude have a think, you see it happen, how do you think they do it in movies the same way special effects producers make shoot outs in movies look realistic the "game" producers would do the same to make the participants feel as if they were actually being shot at

Hahaha yeah exactly. This is the funniest thread ever.

I think OP has some valid questions.

For it to be "just" special effects, they had to know exactly where Van Orton was going etc, which would be almost impossible. + They would have had to sabotage his car etc. Maybe they really shot with bullets but missing on purpose?

reply

Watch the movie carefully, he is very deftly manipulated into going where they want him to go. It's probable that they have a roving tail on him, but he is guided through solving the mystery with subtle clues he can refer back to. A classic example is the tag on the lamp. It's almost impossible not to notice or ignore and they know it will kick off the scenario where he flips out and has to escape with her. ("they" in this case is CRS)

reply

Why do so few people not understand how CRS orchestrated everything and predicted almost every possibility van Orton would do?

The series of psych tests!

Being able to read and predict someone using tests like the one in the film is implausible, of course, but that is actually the MAIN premise that the film asks you to embrace. There are HUNDREDS of other films out there where the premise is infinitely more implausible but hey, people accept it because there is no subtlety in them. Superhero movies, scifi flicks, horror movies.

The problem with this movie is... not all people who watch it are smart enough. That's pretty much it.

I think they were using real bullets but missed the two characters on purpose. At one point you can see the bullet impacts on the windows from inside the car, and there are no holes. Meaning they replaced his windows with bullet proof glass some time beforehand.

reply

And what private company is going to risk a serious injury or death for any fee? "Miss on purpose"? No company would endanger lives even with a skilled sniper. The liabilities would be out of this world. Besides the law would never allow this or the deliberate driving a cab into cold, dangerous waters- divers be damned! CRS broke numerous laws in the course of "The Game". Someone would be going to jail over this...

reply

Possibly true, but that's not really a plot hole. You think that part of the plot is far-fetched. Is it worth it for a hypothetical situation on which an interesting story is based? I think so.

I would add that as he's signed whatever waiver they presented him with, his injury or death would presumably not affect their fee?

reply

I didn't claim it was a polt hole- the OP started the thread with that contention. I was simply pointing out silly aspects of the movie. It's entertaining but it is more fiction that Star Wars.

reply

The entire movie is a plot hole, its just dopey. Consider the premise: Gee, my brother is as old as daddy when he jumped off a building, and he's a wealthy loner, so I'll make a game out of threatening him, tee hee, maybe he'll then stop being a loner. I'm glad I didn't pay to see it, just tried watching it again but it's not even a thriller, I keep telling myself how dopey it is. Just a disappointing waste of time.

reply

You can make anything sound stupid when you say it like that.

The Shawshank Redemption:

Gee, I'm locked in a prison for something I didn't do, this is boring. Maybe I should start digging a tunnel, tee hee, or open up a library to amuse myself. If only that warden wasn't soooo mean.

My point is, you have no point.

When you put it like that then all movies are boring.

I don't love her.. She kicked me in the face!!

reply

I think the real point here is that the opinions possessed by people who use the phrase "tee hee" are totally worthless.

reply

Hmmm... I never even saw that being discussed.

I enjoyed the movie, but this comment was so on point and hilarious.

reply

you said it. It's a fake house. They can rig the place with primer and squibs and just let loose. Balsa wood can't hurt d!ck.

reply

excellent point. the windshield bullet damage was real within the movie for sure. It is a plot hole.

reply

nope

reply

look up the term "plot hole" dude, its not logical fallacies.

reply

I enjoy the movie greatly, but I would never ever take it seriously. I just see the whole thing as a big dark comedy.

The consequence-free nature of the absurd premise shouldn't be over-analysed.
