Underrated masterpiece
I want another Dead Space
share... until about half way through.
shareWhat made it a masterpiece? I found it to be garbage with basically zero redeeming qualities. It was a waste of time to watch for enjoyment. I could see wanting to see movie making tactics and CGI from the late 90's, but it was a stupid movie.
shareGotta agree with Tyler 1986 on this. I think it's rather overrated. It constantly turns up on lists of the best SF-Horror movies ever and I was recently persuaded to watch it again, figuring that maybe I was misremembering... Nope. It made no sense as SF and the horror was not well done. Nice idea, I suppose, and the mistranslated Latin was a nice moment, but nothing else positive is going to stick with me.
shareNo doubt about it.
I've always wanted to watch another one like it but always end up going back to this one as there is no other one like it.
It had potential, but it has the look of a horrible Paul Anderson movie. It constantly contradicted itself. One moment the ship is fine with just killing everybody and then it changes to wanting to take everyone back to Hell. Like, why? Why did Weir act all evil and sinister one moment when he tells Miller, "I am home." Then the next scene he's showing concern and heartbreak when he finds Peters fallen corpse and says, "Oh, no, Peters."
I have watched it a lot, but it's a guilty pleasure. I like the horror and sci-fi mix. It also seems like a prequel to Warhammer 40K with demons existing in the warp where starships travel through.
Supposedly the idea of demonic possession of a space ship via inter-dimensional travel was, indeed, inspired by Warhammer 40k.
shareYeah I figured it was a Warhammer type demon where the possession can let the real person come back to see the horror before taking over again.

shareIf you haven’t seen it already, you might enjoy this recent retrospective on the making of EH: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y12LcdHidCg. It’s where I heard the Warhammer tidbit.
share“Horrible Paul Anderson movie” is a redundancy🤮
shareI'm not sure I'd go that far, but its a pretty solid SF horror. I'd love to see the original directors cut before the studio butchered it.
shareDecent film. A bit overrated by some.
shareSeems like we are in the minority. I think this very good. Would love to have seen the original cut.
