Underrated

This was a very good and underrated movie, never liked Alec Baldwin but Anthony Hopkins was excellent.

reply

Great casting. Hopkins is the best.

I would have given Best Supporting Actor to Bart the Bear.

reply

Agree! The bear scenes were intense.

I loved Bart the Bear too, he was in many movies including The Bear (1988), really good. It was sad when he died of cancer.

I'm inclined to agree it could have been rated somewhat higher. When I first saw it in the theater back then, it knocked my socks off. I recommended it to a friend and he was likewise bowled over.

I spotted it in the menu of my television movie package a short while ago and was tempted but by now I've seen it so many times over.

Well, this must have made you dislike Baldwin even more. He was effective in portraying a pretty despicable character.

reply

Just watched this again. You’re right — Baldwin’s performance was really top-notch. The nuances of his character and his character’s motivations are never lost even during the big action scenes.

reply

yeah I agree I think it's pretty great

I'm glad when I can see AB in a serious film. I tend to forget he has been a serious actor at times.
As for The Edge, it's a nice thriller. One thing I notice is I tend to enjoy films that have an outdoor setting. Cliffhanger, The Shallows, The Grey. Whether or not the situation is believable, I seem to enjoy a film a little more when it's set in the great outdoors.
