If you like Deep Rising, you will also like...

I loved Deep Rising, but have had a hard time finding movies in the same genre that are good. So this thread is for mentioning suggestions for other movies that one would like if liking Deep Rising. And please dont all mention the same three movies ;)

You'd also like:
Soldier (1998) - Kurt Russel is a soldier in a distant future, dumped because they've gotten new and better soldiers. Now he has to protect a small society on a garbage planet against the invading "new soldiers". Well made B-movie

I think another film that's on the same level, sort of, is Deep Blue See and Virus. All 3 are very similiar movies that you can watch anytime and not get bored.

I would also add The Relic.

I'll second The Relic. Another great, underrated thriller.

Wait a minute... who am I here?

absolutely Relic is on that list. Very underrated. That movie is awesome. I don't want to spoil it for you HBK. Besides the monster comes from a myth supposedly, so there's no difinitive description of it. I can't remember but in the movie they mention where/how it came to be. So don't ruin it and see it.

Don't forget Leviathan - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097737/

The Relic is a great thriller. I love the movie but I read the book about a week before the movie came out and the book is a thousand times better. I'll have to say everyone who likes thrillers should read this book.

Some of my favorite Sci-fis:

Intruders (1992)
Trollhunter
Dead Heat
The Midnight Meat Train
Below
Dark City
Slither
Daybreakers

reply

Slither! Yes.

I also add my vote to The Relic.

And these:

Cabin in the Woods
The Faculty
Eight Legged Freaks
The Thing
Demon Knight
In the Mouth of Madness

Pitch Black is a good monster movie that you might want to check out.

The Relic is a really good film for its kind. And I'm glad someone mentioned the remake of The Blob, which has Shawnee Smith from the Saw films.

The Fly (Cronenburg)
Hardware
Tremors
Eight Legged Freaks
Graveyard Shift
Squirm
The Host

Dusk til dawn was awsome!

I have The Blob on DVD, but i sorta only like half of the movie! The last half was a bit too serious for my taste :-(

Movies that I have always thought are fairly-to-incredibly reminiscint of Deep Rising- all of these have the same creatures-in-industrial-setting kinda plot, and all of them are a bit underrated.

Deep Blue Sea- very enjoyable creature movie, with some memorable action set-pieces and some unusual touches. The CG isn't quite as playstation-ish as in Deep Rising, another plus point.

Alien Resurrection- as well as the general setup, there are a couple of scenes that are almost identical to Deep Rising. There's a scene when all the characters point guns at a lift that's about to open, but its only a false scare, same as in Deep Rising. There's also a scene in both movies where the characters must make they're way through a flooded part of the boat/spaceship to get to the other side, and someone gets killed by the creatures. AR came out in 1997, DR came out in 1998...they were probably both in production at roughly the same time. Action movies with creatures always have the same tropes, but the similarity of these scenes is rather striking.

Event Horizon- a bit more serious than the other two, and no creatures exactly, but worth a look if you like them.

I'm planning on watching Deep Rising tonight, for the first time since I bought it on DVD, which was when it came out.. can't remember much about it apart from the monster, which if I remember rightly had a LOT of teeth!

I've never understood why so many people seem to dislike Event Horizon.. I think it's bloody fantastic, so much so that I intend to upgrade it to Blu-Ray. It's one of the most atmospheric horror films going, with an excellent premise, and given it's set in Space is an added bonus (not to mention rather vital to the plot!), as I love Sci-Fi films as well as horror. Another reason why one of your other recommendations is high on my list as well. Alien Resurrection is terribly underrated in my opinion. Cracking film!

Deep Blue Sea, unfortunately, did nothing for me, aside from making me want to eat my own face! I had to look it up to start with, and as soon as I saw the word "shark" it all came flooding back to me (if you'll pardon the pun!).. I'd successfully managed to suppress all memory of that film until now!

Another one that I recommend is Starship Troopers - damn good entertainment, completely over the top, monsters left, right and centre, and a ton of action!

Maybe, Predator too. If it bleeds, we can kill it.

I'm surprised there's no mention of Event Horizon. Of course some people don't like Paul W.S. Anderson but this particular film of his is his finest, I think.

Kraken:Tentacles of the Deep (not bad scifi flick)
Octopus
Spiders
The Relic (already mentioned though)
Dog Soldiers
Ghosts of Mars
Vampires (John Carpenters)
The Thing
C.H.U.D.
Venom
Cloverfield

Alot of great ones have been previously mentioned already.

I really haven't found another monster movie as good as Deep Rising unless you want to count King Kong but I consider King Kong a totally different type of movie since Deep Rising is more of a well made B movie while Kong is a blockbuster movie.

Virus is good and the only one you can compare to Deep Rising but Virus is more of a haunting sea-going tale while Deep Rising is mostly non-stop action!

One movie that immediately came to my mind is Lake Placid:
