Favourite Wong Kar Wai film

I've just started watching Won Kar Wai films and I am already a huge fan.
I have seen Chungking Express, In the mood for Love, 2046 and was hoping to get Happy Together, but ofcourse... HMV didnt have it.

What Wong Kar Wai films do you recommend / Which is your favourite?

reply

Screw HMV, I have long ago- try cdwow.com or yesasia.com, thery'll have them all!

Definitely do try and see Happy Together, it's up there with his best (i.e. CE and ITMFL).

It probably is my favourite, though I can't always decide between this and ITMFL- I felt incredibly touched and moved by HT, and do so every time I see it, and I continue to see it periodically to find out more about why it is that it makes me feel the way it does.

Definitely WKW's richest in symbols and imagery. Check out Days of Being Wild as well.

My two favorite Wong Kar Wai films are Happy Together and Fallen Angels. I'd recommend anything you haven't seen from Wong Kar Wai. He's only done 8 feature films.

I've seen all of his films and really liked them all but one, Ashes of Time (not bad at all, it's just that I'm not a fan of epic films). My favorites are In the Mood for Love, Happy Together and Chungking Express. The others are really good too. Days of Being Wild is beautiful.
I say you should see them all.

Have a nice day.

2046, def.

am I really the only one who thinks that his first movie As Tears Go By is his best??
Andy Lau & Maggie Cheung are just perfect together and Jackie Cheung gives on of the best performances in his career.

I liked As Tears Go By, but it seems like Wong Kar Wai had not really pinned down his style yet when he made the movie. To me, it feels more like a John Woo 80s movie with a few glimpses of the brilliance that was to come.

My favorite is probably In The Mood For Love, although it's a tough choice.

I love them all but my favorite is In the mood for Love.

It was the same with me. I saw Chungking Express because my chinese girlsfriend wouldn't shut up about it and I've been a big WKW fan ever since.
Since you liked Chungking (his best work in my opinion), you should definitely watch Fallen Angels. It's kinda the darker version of Chungking. Many parallels between the movies, some borrowed plot elements even. Fallen Angels was in fact supposed to be part of Chungking Express, but somewhere down the line plans changed and Chungking only consisted of 2 stories, and the rest turned into a movie of it's own.

I love most of Wong Kar-Wai's movies. Happy Together stands out as my favorite from him. It just looks so incredibly raw, and the dysfunctional relationship is portrayed in the best possible way. Not to mention the fact that Tony Leung and Leslie Cheung are awesome in their parts. In the Mood for Love and 2046 are close behind. They are really stylish movies, and the interconnecting storylines are pretty cool. Then, Chungking Express and Fallen Angels, which are both great but seemed kind of impersonal.

I LOVE Happy Together, just I can't but realising maybe it's because 2046 and In the Mood for Love is too hard to understand. Wahahh.
