possibly the WORST cartoon feature length film to date

it's so pointless. cats trying to get into hollywood? sounds more like something i'd expect on the muppet show. it's overflowing with corny musical numbers, and the ''villain'' of the film is......Shirley Temple? and it seems like they are making an attempt at cgi in some scenes. which needless to say doesnt help this film. i was bored throughout the whole film. i was starved for something cartoony! thats kinda what you go see a cartoon film for! i was so desperate i would've settled for someone dropping their pants! hell even slipping on a banana peel! but no. instead i got repetitive musical numbers, a cynical Shirley Temple, and an over enthusiastic cat. oh and i also forgot the oversized Lurch bodyguard that played second fiddle to this little four year old bitch. and when it seemed like it was trying to be funny it failed miserably since all they ever did was spit out sarcastic responses to one another. overall i say this film was a complete and total failure.

I disagree, simply because everyone knows that Quest for Camelot is the worst cartoon feature length film ever made (and arguably any post-1990 Don Bluth film).

That and your reasoning sucks.

LOL! I agree!

Quest for Camelot is really bad. I hate when other animation studies try to imitate Disney animated movies. The ax-chicken was the only good part of that train-wreck.

reply

When I was a kid Quest for Camelot was my all time favorite..

Aw I think it's a shame that the standards are so high to be considered a good movie. The idea was somewhat original, and it was just a fun, cute little movie. Everyone just needs to chill =]

I know I'm looking to much into it but I take it as a metaphor for minorities in early Hollywood. Chances of getting a part were low and if you did it was probably degrading and humiliating.

reply

yeah, I can imagine it as minorities getting into Hollywood... but yes. This movie was flawed, despite the cute character designs of the two protagonists. RANDY NEWMAN WROTE THE SONGS... (I still think of the Y2K episode of family guy when I think of him lol) The color use in the film was pretty interesting, and they did try hard on character development and themes. But..... for a kid's movie, it is pretty dull. The singing is good, but the songs are terrible. The plot is overly simplistic, and it does take itself way too seriously. (Don't diss post-1990 Bluth!!!!!!!!!! It was adorable and had Barry Manilow songs. As much as people can diss the Manilow, at least he's not Randy Newman)

reply

Perhaps you should review the movie, (as in, watch it again) because I strongly, strongly disagree with the statement that, 'it does take itself way too seriously'.

I cannot imagine how anyone who has watched it recently can possibly say this.

Did you see the part where she looked up at, "The grandaddy of all switches'?

What about the over-blown portrayal of her 'bodyguard' type guy? They persistently made puns and visual gags about how unreasonably humongous the guy is.
And the parts where it shows the little girl laughing maniacally, complete with dark, subdued lighting and sinister music?

Oh, I know what part that made you think the movie took itself too seriously; it must have been when they were sailing through the city on enough water to fill a small ocean which apparently came ten seconds earlier from a water pipe in a studio, while everyone remained depressingly calm or cheerful in the midst of the turmoil.

Oh, wait. . . .

reply

Whatchu talkin 'bout OP? This movie was and is GREAT! It's one of my fave animated movies.

reply

as much as i love this film,

i have to admit it is kind of ... well ... bad.

The songs suck even though they get stuck in my head.

The animation doesn't look real at all and it makes no sense, but then no cartoons do, that's like the point of them.

the whole thing is kind of predictable, but it is a children's film and it's very sweet.

I can think of a load more bad stuff about this film, but somehow i keep finding myself wanting to watch it again and again!!

reply

I believe your problem is that your too cynical and sobered. You probobly meant the mistake of comparing it to Disney as well. This movie wasn't created in effort to become an animated masterpiece. It was meant to be a cute, light hearted musical about a cartoon cat dreaming of his name is lights. It's abstract. It's not in the same league as Disney, whom many times focuses on being realistic.

i'd rather be his whore than your wife

reply

The TC probably didn't like it cause it wasn't CG. Unfortuantely, that seems to be the standard today. Personally i know this movie is a CLASSIC.

My sister just played this for me and I have to say this is NOT the worst animated feature ever. Quest for Camelot and half of Disney's half-assed sequels fit that bill. This movie is very stylish and not the norm for a feature flick.

SPOILER WARNING! The end is nigh...

reply

If anything, this is probably one of Warner Bros.' BEST films. And that's saying something.

I certainly agree with most of the comments about this being a good movie in spite of the original poster's beliefs...

BUT WHAT THE HECK IS UP WITH THE QUEST FOR CAMELOT DISSING... I like that movie too. I'm glad that twailer_twash (cute name) agrees.
