What is your top five saddest movie scenes?
For me
Once were Warriors (mothers reaction to finding her daughter)
Life is beautiful (Death of father, arrival of tank)
Crash (daughter getting "shot")
Color Purple (sisters getting separated)
All Blacks loss to Australia in the rugby world cup semi-final....haha kidding.

reply

Dancer in the Dark for the ending.

Bambi I'm just sensitive.

Houston, we have a hippo.

I have yet to see this movie but the top 5 saddest movie scenes would have to be (and i will try and list movies not stated but i might not be successful)
1. Ladder 49 (at the end)
2. A Walk to Remember (i don't want to ruin it but when the audience finds something out)
3. Green Mile (it's at the end)
4. Crash (I was balling when the little girl got "shot" it was pretty bad)
5. Hardball (when somebody gets shot)

There are too many movies that are sad...but these are a list of some

reply

LOL. i know its only polite to put spoiler warnings- but on a thread asking to descibe your saddest movie scenes- doesnt it stand to reason?

Willy Wonka's Weird and Wonderful Gum-Chewing Gang of Weirdo's

reply

I have to say to me at least, the saddest moment in any movie I have ever seen is in Milo and Otis when Milo Leaves Otis.

*spoilers*

The Deer Hunter (the scene where Di Niro visits the wheelchair-bound man in the hospital - so bad with names! Also the death of Christiphor Walken's character)
Amores perros (when El Chivo comes home and the dogs are dead)
Children Of Men (Michael Caine character's death particularly, cried at the end too)
King Kong (self-explanatory)
E.T. (see above)

One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest
There's been lots, and I haven't seen films like Schindlers List or Umberto D, Elephant Man - I am sure these films feature too!

The parts of Life Is Beautiful I cried at most were the bit where he comes back from having had to carry that heavy thing and he can still lift his son and still manages to have the energy to joke.. it breaks your heart, how much love he has for him.. and also when he plays the opera music from across the camp and his wife listens.. Oh God! Obviously the ending too, and I cried at the kiss under the table too, but that's just because I'm soppy! What a film...

The arrival of the tank sets off the waterworks every time.

That little boy being so happy that his father's promise came true, but daddy is, in fact, gone. TOOOOOOO much.

I still can't stop crying when I see it, and I have watched it countless times. I have family members that think this is funny....

In no paticular order:

Sophie's Choice - the choosing of which one of her children could live and which had to die.

La Vita è Bella - the boy coming close to death, but got away because he refused to take a shower.

The Color Purple - the separation between the two sisters and when Oprah Winfrey is being harassed because of the color of her skin.

The Long Walk Home - this whole movie is full of tearjerking moments, it's hard to pick one.

The Green Mile - the execution scene of an innocent man.

Bambi - shooting of Bambi's mother is so disturbing for a Disney film.

The Lion King - when Simba's father is killed by Scar and Simba believes he is the reason for the death of his father.

Titanic - when Kate Winslet claims she will never let go to 'Jack' before allowing his dead body to sink below the sea.

I know this is well over 5 but these are my top tearjerker moments in film. I'm sure films I haven't seen e.g. Shindler's List and Anne Frank are equally as sad and once I do watch them, I'm sure they will make their way onto my list.

reply

Spoiler alert if you have not seen these movies I am about to list!

For Me:
Schindler's List- Pretty much all of it, but mainly the part where he sees the red jacket girl being carted off to the incinerator. And the part where they are all thanking him and he starts crying.
Lord of the Rings: Return of the King- I started to cry when Frodo was getting on the boat. I'm not very proud of it, but I cried.
Life is Beautiful- Well, the death of Guido of course.
Pay it Forward- The ending.
Moulin Rouge- The ending.

*Say You'll Love Me, Every Waking Moment*
Phantom of the Opera Forever!

I could name sooo many!

Bambi- I cant even watch it!

Green Mile- The bit that really got me was the 'wipe your eyes before you stand up' (or whatever Hanks says to Barry Pepper) then you see Barry Pepper and he's crying. That bits sooo sad, and when Tom Hanks character doesn't say roll on 3.

Pay it Forward- The ending is so sad.

Titanic-When she tells him there's a boat and realises he's died. So so sooo sad! After everything they'd been through together.

Lion King- When Simba's Dad dies.

My Girl- When Vada finds out Thomas has died.

This boys life- When they're fighting at the end and De Niro bites his finger and he lets out that awful ear piercing scream!

What's Eating Gilbert Grape- When Gilbert hits Arnie out of frustration in the bathroom.

There are so many more, but I can't think right now. I could watch the last 5 minutes of a film I've never seen and cry if someone else is!

I can't watch any of the RSPCA or WSPA adverts on T.v ever, I would cry all day!

reply

Most of the movie I was sad,but at the same time happy because of of all the jokes. My feelings were very mixed. I learned how to look at the bright side of life in the worst times.

reply

American Beauty- When Lester becomes a real father for the first time, (when he puts the blanket around Angela)

Crash- After John pulls Thandie's character out of the burning car and she just grabs him and cries.

A Walk To Remember- I know it is pathetic but it is while she is walking down the aisle and he just stares at his beautiful and peefect wife. I lose it every time

United 93- the whole thing was harrowing and I couldn't stop crying in theaters

Big Fish: Edward Blooms death

One Flew Over the Cockoo's Nest: the whole end

reply

My sad scenes in no order.

SAVING PRIVATE RYAN- When the old Ryan asks his wife if he is a good man and if his life has been worth living

FORREST GUMP-When Forrest talks to his wife's grave.

CLICK-When Adam Sandler finds out how he never talked to his dad before he died, and when his family is leaning over him as he dies in the street.

WE WERE SOLDIERS- When Barry Peppers character talks about still hearing the screams in the middle of the night.

CAST AWAY- Not a sad scene but one of my favorite endings. I love it when he stands at the crossroads and looks down each one trying to choose.
I apparently have a thing for Tom Hank's movies.
