its too long & boring

just like it a bit.

THRILLER IS MY FOOD!

reply

I disagree, I didn't want it to end.

reply

Yeah, I don't know how you find this boring. It's about as long as it needed to be.

reply

That's what she said!

reply

That's what your girl said.

reply

i love there will be blood tho, its much better.

THRILLER IS MY FOOD!

reply

Yes, and those endless party scenes. Phew!

reply

hmm!

reply

Yeah the party scene did drag a bit but they were just establishing the characters. The drug shootout was freaking awesome.

This film is anything but too long and Boring. It's Anderson most Un-Anderson film in a way. It's obviously in thrall to Robert Altman and Martin Scorsese and nothing in the least wrong with that. It's definitely the best thing Burt Reynolds, Heather Graham and Mark Wahlberg have done acting wise imo, amazing to think Reynolds is so down on this film. Julianne Moore is probably the best thing in it. Great to see John C Reilly in a more serious role. Also the late great Philip Seymour Hoffman leaves his mark for later Anderson films. William H Macey, Don Cheadle, Philip Baker Hall, Thomas Jane and Luis Guzman round out the cast.

It's a amazingly Confident film for a Director who was only 26 at the time.

reply

I completely agree. It's my favorite PTA film.

Soundtrack ain't bad either.

reply

There Will Be Blood, is still his masterpiece for me. Best film of the last 29 years imo. But Boogie Nights would be in my top 3 of his films along with Phantom Thread.

The Soundtrack is fantastic. Can't listen to Rick Springfield's Jessie's Girl without thinking of Alfred Molina coked out of his mind dancing around a room lol.

reply

And don't forget his air piano on Sister Christian!

TWBB was an excellent film also.

reply

Still funniest thing I've seen in cinema is still after the botched robbery attempted. Both Wahlberg and C.Reilly run out of the house, then C. Reilly just jumps over a Bush. I don't know why but I laugh out loud at that scene.

Doesn't the tape stop halfway during the song. Great song that.

What about "The Touch" from Stan Bush. That studio stuff of Wahlberg and C.Reilly rocking out to that is fantastic.

reply

I had no idea that was a real song! I thought it was supposed to be an original tune of theirs.

reply

No it was written for Transformer's cartoon film back in the 80's lol. I thought the same for years until I check up on YouTube and there it was. I don't know if you know this but the guy producing them in that scene was Sean Penn's brother who also wrote the music for the film, who was married Aimee Mann who wrote those wonderful songs for Magnolia.

reply

Yes, I'm a fan of Michael Penn and Aimee Mann. "Resigned" and "I'm With Stupid" are both on my all-time list.

reply

"Best film of the last 29 years imo." Awful opinion.

reply

I enjoyed Mark Wahlberg in The DEPARTED

reply

I consider it to be mediocre ... and PTA's best film.

reply

If it's not on your Top 10 list of films of the 90s, you don't know too much about film...

reply

It's definitely there, do I get a pass lol. still think There Will be Blood is his greatest film and one of the greatest films ever made. But Boogie Night's is just amazing that Anderson was only 26 when he did that. Amazing.

reply

There Will Be Blood is a good movie, no doubt about it. I've never felt compelled to watch it again, which differentiates it for me from Boogie Nights (doesn't mean one is better than the other, just means atmosphere in Boogie Nights invites repeated viewings).

reply

It's as long as it needs to be.

And full of classic scenes. Not boring at all.

reply

Damn I’ve always loved this movie. Soooo not boring.
