Did Batman & Robin really "ruin" Chris O'Donnell's career?

On one hand, he is one of the leads of NCIS: LA, which has been on the air for over nine years now, and has close to 300 episodes. On the other hand however, while Chris is still rich and successful, at one point in the mid to late '90s, he was being groomed as a cinematic real leading man.

He was theoretically, on the Matt Damon track (if not ahead of him) coming out of School Ties, getting Scent of a Woman, which was obviously a hugely successful movie especially critically. And from there, he Dick Grayson in Batman Forever and it seemed like he was set to become a real A-lister.

I don't think it ruined his career since he still made big movies throughout the rest of the 1990s/early 2000s. He just seemed to never choose a good Oscar-worthy role or a critically-acclaimed movie to balance out the mainstream movies he was making. A lot of actors seem to turn to TV in their 30s if their movie career does not seem to be getting bigger, and O'Donnell is one of them.
