Come on it wasn't that bad...

Okay I know this movie was some stupidity but I have seen worse movies that have a better rating than this, Why so low it really wasn't that bad when you think about it.

I am the son of a man named Tom.

reply

Because people follow others. If critics and other people say it's not good then it's not good.

I too enjoyed this film.

reply

Ummm...bullsh!t.

How many Fast and Furious movies do we have? Transformers?

Conversely, the movie Highlander flopped and yet spawned two sequels and a TV series.

It took 8 years for them to do another Batman movie, and then they not only had to re-boot it, but completely change the tone of the movies.

That wasn't simply because some people said B&R was bad.

It was.

reply

Not really. Batman and robin take that title

A lot of the audience notices pretty much all of the problems. Good movie that is entertaining, no matter how cringeworthy it is.

reply

Watching it in the theater, it was an unbearably loud, grating experience... maybe watching it at home with a lower volume I could appreciate it more. Never have had the desire to try again though.

reply

That's how most films are for me

Back when it came out, there was an excitement in the air surrounding this film... Arnold was playing Mr. Freeze and his makeup looked cool... Alicia Silverstone and Uma Thurman were big stars at the time... Clooney was popular... Everyone was rooting for it to be good, but it was awful. There was no social media, so it wasn't attacked in advance... it had nothing to blame for its failure but itself.

reply

Not the biggest surprise. I hear that Forever's response was more positive before this came out and with how much it made. Today with social media, it would be different. If this came out today, then it surely would not have made as much money adjusted. That's probably why Catwoman didn't make more than $40 something million in 2004 since there was more coverage. Not sure about Forever

reply

Yeah, well, I'm not the only one who genuinely likes "Batman Forever". But as a guilty pleasure, nobody thinks it's a great movie.

But "BF" is IMHO a good example of deliberate camp that worked, while "B&R" is deliberate camp that did not.

reply

Yes it was.

Batman & Robin has crater-sized plotholes. It's one of the laziest big budget movies (let alone superhero movies) ever made. Like for example, what is the purpose of Vivica A. Fox's character? If Mr. Freeze has a girlfriend/side-piece then doesn't that immediately makes him (remember that his whole MO is trying to cure his beloved wife) less sympathetic. Also, why couldn't Victor Fries have attempted to go to Bruce Wayne for a grant to aid in his research instead of becoming a jewelry robber?

reply

Batman & Robin I think, contains the very worst aspects of superhero movies: Too many subplots amass an otherwise cookie cutter storyline, tonally inconsistent, cynical and seemingly scornful towards the source material, and overtly campy but not in a "good way" (but more intelligence insulting).

reply

I thought it was fun and camp.
