shareThat's pretty cold of you
share"I was always crazy about Mr. Freeze from the television series and Arnold Schwarzenegger was my only choice from the beginning. He's a great action star, of course, but he also has a great sense of humor, which is crucial to the Batman movies. They are called 'comic' books, not 'tragic' books, and I think we always need to remember that this is a big pop-culture opera, not Medea." -1997 promotional interviewshare
Still a better Mr. Freeze than he was as Conan The Barbarian, just was in a better movie.
shareI disagree. In Conan, you believed he was Conan. A brute warrior.
In this he was just annoying Arnold doing a whole movie of annoying Arnold 'jokes'.
He was indeed convincing as a brute warrior, but he still made for a terrible Conan. Howard's Conan is a self-taught barbarian who is a man of many words and very intelligent( Though civilized customs are foreign to him). Arnold's Conan was a freed slave who was taught everything he knew from the people his owner took him to meet( This precludes him from being a barbarian by the way. ) He also prays to Crom, which is a huge no-no if you know the mythology Howard laid out because Crom is the kind of God who hates being prayed to and asked for help, he'll only send doom your way if you do. As a stand alone movie, Conan The Freed Slave is a very good sword and sorcery story, but as an adaptation of Howard's work it is a disaster and ruined the brand name for years to come. A proper film version has yet to be made.
Arnold was still pretty miscast as Freeze though, and Batman & Robin is not a good movie any way you cut it, but the character of Mr. Freeze actually began life as a cheesy, pun-producing baddie with no depth and was just too silly to take seriously. As the years went on, and especially after Batman: TAS, Freeze was rethought as a tragic character.
So, yes. Technically speaking, Arnold played a better Freeze than he ever had as Conan, he was just in better movies.
I never read much of the Conan comics, so I didn't know tons of the back ground. One thing I do remember is him saying, "Crom" a whole lot in places where we'd say, "God."
Yeah, he did the same in the original stories but he never was on his knees praying for help from Crom. Other uses for it are fine for him and his religion though.

He is not Mr Freeze from the comics thats for sure, but his performance is entertaining as long as you are not taking him seriously
I'm gonna show you something beautiful everyone screaming for mercy
I actually always thought that he's one of the best things in the movie.
shareThis was the movie he was making when he got the maid pregnant. I imagine at one point, in the Schwarzenegger household in late 1996, there where screams of 'The Iceman Cometh!' before conception.
I wouldn't want to watch it, but I'm sure that was a better performance then what he did here.
