The Alien escaped by killing itself and using its acid to burn through the floor.
Those scientists knew about the Alien’s acid. They also knew about the Alien’s intelligence. How could they allow such an oversight
It was a military ship so the scientists had no input in the design. As for the Aliens intelligence, what did they know about it other than it was a quick learner. They obviously never considered that two Aliens would turn on the third and make it bleed acid all over the floor. But they did have that freezer thing which maybe could have neutralized the acid had the scientist not panicked.
