So Underrated. Who agrees?

Particularly Samuel L Jackson's performance. This film is so overlooked. I meet a truckload of people who have never even heard of it.

I actually started respect S.Jackson as an actor only after this role. Movie is definetly really strong, actors were great.

This is definately an underrated film. It was very good. Most people wouldn't argue that what Garfield did was wrong but at the same time you kinda sympathize and understand why he does what he does even if it is wrong. Not to mention they had it coming.

very underrated. not only one of sam jackon's best, but john heard, and the young men as well (cesar, et. al.). i definitely need to see this one again soon to better critique it, but the best part about the plot is that there are no "good" guys. everyone's right and wrong in their own ways in this movie... perhaps one reason of those who've seen it, few enjoyed it. it doesn't draw black and white lines for audiences who can't think for themselves.

I thought the movie was quite depressing TBH, that I would say was mainly because of Samuel L. Jackson's performance, the mans that good at acting that he moves you - and thats what he did in this movie, what with him struggling to do the best for these kids and getting what, vandalism and insults, not to mention stabbed. I really felt for him in this movie.
But overall, yes the movie is underatted. But I'm sure what's not underatted is people not noticing that Samuel L. Jackson is the best actor there is on TV!!!

I just watched this movie last night on Starz out of a fit insomnia, I felt really disturbed by it. -Probably one of the most powerful movies to actually deal with the warzone which is the out of control inner-city education system. -Sure Dangerous Minds was okay, as Lean on Me, and the novelty of movies like "the Principle" -and just about others, but I gotta say the moment you finish this movie you feel like you need a break from everything to absorb it!

I feel this movie is/was probably underrated at most because after Dangerous Minds came out people were probably exhausted with this topic.

I agree with vincevega918. I think this movie is more closely related to what actually happens in some urban high schools, but with all of the other "troubled high school kids/teacher with a heart of gold" movies that were out, it got lost in the stack.

BUT 187, i think, is horrifyingly realistic, IMO. Great film.
