never realized how 'grown up' this show was

pedophiles? breast implants?
Disney wouldn't even dare to say breast now.

I bet they don't show those episodes anymore. I know they don't show the pedophile episode. I have never even seen it.

Yes, it's true! IMDB has reached Sweden!

ya they still show both of those episodes on family channel in canada, although it is being aired at 130am so they probably dont have to worry about to many young kids watching it

reply

I remember seeing both those episodes on Disney they probably just edited it like they did Boy Meets World sometimes. I could remember seeing some episodes on ABC and then watching them on Disney and wondering why they were different when I was younger.

reply

OK, Ive couldve sworn Ive seen EVERY episode of Smart Guy, I dont remember the whole pedophile one.

reply

The episode is called Strangers on the net and according to IMDB it will be on BET on the 9th at 5 PM and the 10th at 9 AM.

reply

I remember seeing the pedophile episode on Disney. I just saw the episode on BET, I was thinking there is no way they would show this on Disney now.

reply

I just saw that episode on bet as well

yeah i just watched the pedophile one yesterday. i remember seeing that when i was younger, when i started using the internet and i didn't fully get it at that age but i think it had at least a little effect on me, like being safe on the internet and stuff. because "marky" seemed nice and it didn't seem fishy at all when i was younger, whereas now i see how easily a kid could be lured in by an old guy who's into games and stuff.

just a rave, i think it was a good episode for kids to see, at the appropriate age of course.

reply

I think every kid needs to see this episode. Shows like his help kids to be aware of the dangers out in the world, there need to be more of them nowadays. It doesnt do any good to sugarcoat the world and teach kids that maybe, they too, can be popstars(Hannah Montana) or that high school life is perfect(High School Musical). And for those who keep labeling Smart Guy as a Disney show, it's not, it originally aired on the WB.

reply

Well we saw it on Disney channel so to us it is a Disney show.

reply

Well it's not. Doesn't matter what it is to you the point is, that it's not a Disney show though. Just like Boy Meets World wasn't a Disney show either and yet people talk about how mature some the things were for a Disney show when it wasn't even show on Disney in the first place!

Disney owned the show though. WB had the rights to air it.

reply

This was probably the first family show that dealt with internet predators. It was really ahead of its time.

reply

Yeah, I didn't understand the pedophile episode too when I was younger. I was 10 years old at the time, and I saw the pedophile episode on the very Wednesday night that it had premiered on the WB back in 1998. I thought that that episode was just talking about it being dangerous to talk to people online not only because they're not who they appear to be, but also because they might sell you illegal things that would get you in trouble with the law. I HAD NO IDEA that that episode was talking about the possibility of that guy raping a child at the time! But then again I didn't even know what sex was at the age of 10.

reply

I did, but I didn't know about pedophiles at the time so I really didn't get it but I got that when he was photographing kids in their underwear telling them it was to make the game look more realistic, that something was definitely WRONG.

reply

I saw the pedophile episode on Disney.

reply

I use to watch the show when it ran on Disney from 99 to whatever. I am 20 now so I was around 10 at the time. Now I watch the reruns on BET just because it's nice to remember my childhood, and I realized the same thing! Some of the topics were kind of mature for being shown on Disney. Then again, Disney has changed a lot since the late 90's.

reply

Yeah they have. There was a movie called Wish Upon A Star that also came on Disney during the 90s, there is no way they will show that now since they mention doing it and losing their virginity.

Remember when Disney Channel used to show the movie 'Trojan War' all the time, about the guy who's looking for a condom to bang Jennifer Love Hewitt and he keeps running into gags? Pretty sure the only reason Disney played it was because the older brother from Boy Meets World was the main star.

Anyway, they would NEVER play it now, but it used to be on there all the time...

reply

I did see Trojan War but I saw it on HBO, NEVER the Disney Channel (isn't it rated R, or PG-13?). Also, if I remember correctly, Jennifer Love Hewitt was in love with Will Friedle in the movie, but he wanted the condoms for Marley Shelton.

& in the episode "Love Bug," the show mentions teenage sex. This show is amazing and I think more shows geared towards high schoolers would go over very well.

"Do you even remember what you came here to find?"

reply

This show was never created by Disney Channel.

Like sister sister, it was just picked up there after the show got canceled!

They had a pretty adult joke in episode 4 of season 2, when they were trying to set up the father on a date. When they asked if any of these women may be men, the older Henderson said, “I don’t want my dad to get caught like Eddie Murphy,” a reference to the 1997 incident when Murphy got caught in a car with a tranny prostitute
