I watched this show after watching LA Law

Both are great shows, but what a difference.

LA Law makes the legal profession look stylish and glamorous, with the well dressed and handsome cast, the lucrative clients, the flashy cars, the bright and sunny Los Angeles setting.

But this show - some of the attorneys are not attractive (Ellenor), the protagonist’s office is a dump, the attorneys struggle to get money from their clients, the setting is overcast, dreary Boston.

Such different portrayals of the legal profession

The Practice sometimes reminds me of Film Noir with it's gritty realism. I've never watched LA Law, but I get the impression it's more like a daytime soap opera.

Nighttime soaps were the rage, then.

Kelly, who once practiced law, said he wanted this show to be a refutation of LA Law. It's actually a refutation of the entire legal profession. And The Practice is more realistic.
