So Many Hidden Jokes

Everytime I watch "Guffman", I see something new that makes me laugh for the first time. Most recently, I noticed the snack machine in the back of the gym where they are rehearsing is always empty.

Dont know if it is an intentional joke, but it worked for me.

the multiple telegrams on corky's mirror on the backstage dressing room.

One of the biggest hidden jokes in the Movie is the Bob Balaban part. Every one in the cast, every leader in town and Corky seem to imply that he is a no talent hack....yet the music that he does for the play is 100% flawless. He is the only competent person in the entire ensemble. I am certain this was no accident and shows how far Guest will go to poke fun at convention. The only one who is derided is the only one with talent....and these clueless people don't see it.

Best in Show was great...The Mighty Wind was great....this one is my favorite.

Bob Balaban was so brilliant in that role. I loved how he got clearly agitated with Ron and Sheila during the audition and saw through their "talent."

Something about the way he conducts is hilarious to me too.

That's a good point. The supremely confident (but talentless) Corky loved them, but Lloyd knew better. Yet he has no credibility--after all, he shops at Wal-Mart. Small towns can be funny that way.

One thing to me I never noticed was the Blaine Fabin descendant that was so clearly proud when Dr. Pearl played her ancestor on stage....in spite of the fact that her ancestor was a charlatan who convinced gullible pioneers that they were in CA when it was Missouri.

I don't think its really 'hidden', but when Ron is going on about the quarterback for the Blaine Panthers getting injured, its easy to miss Sheila saying "Because you're strong, Ron! You're strong! You're just a big brick!"
