Best deterrant? Trainspotting, Requiem for a Dream or others?

Just wondering - what film would you show someone to put them off drugs for life?

For me I'd have to say Requiem. While I love Trainspotting and don't think it glamorises drug use in any way I think it shows a bit more of the 'fun' elements of drug culture.

I seriously think an edited Requiem should be played to older school kids - would have more impact than all the 'drugs are bad' videos I sat through for sure.

Any other suggestions . . . ?

I guess Reqiuem was the better deterant because it probably showed the worst case scenario...but I still prefer Trainspotting

I was already turned off Heroin when I was crazy young on account of the play "Rent"...sure, it didn't show anything or go into detail but just the thought of getting Aids from sharing needles and recieving a death sentence is terrifying when you're 10.

Trainspotting gauranteed that there is NO way in hell I'd ever even go near someone who came in even the slightest contact with Heroin.

Requiem just made me want to kill myself. Great deterrant...but a bit overkill.

Oh, hey...you gave into the madness? That's awesome...

Not a movie (unless you count the film adaptation of Hannibal), but type "facepeel" into Google Image Search and read the related story. That ought to put kids off hard drugs forever.

Why's no-one mentioned Christiane F?

reply

Christiane F. 'Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo' is a great movie and a great deterrent to drugs. I actually saw that movie at school and it impressed me a lot. First movie I thought about when seeing this thread title :)

definitely trainspotting because it sends a message to those oversmart types who'll say things like "Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a starter home. Choose dental insurance, leisure wear and matching luggage. Choose your future. But why would anyone want to do a thing like that?" when discussin life

reply

What message is that? That heroin is a reasonable alternative to being a struggling, vapid zero for the rest of your life?

reply

I'd also say Basketball diaries, I saw it for the first time a month ago and was blown away.

Can't keep me off this escalator!

reply

it has to be Requiem.I don't think any movie can show the hell that drugs are as great as this one.

I agree that Requiem is a much better deterrent against drugs. It's more realistic.
