Begbie was a skinny dwarf

I didn't buy him as the hard man, Robert Carlyle is less than 5'7, very skinny yet he's meant to be this hard psychopath. The acting was great but the actor was miscast.

Those guys at the pub in Scotland and the ones in England could have easily charged or tackled him down no problem.

Scottish folk are small. The average height for men is 5 ft 4 inches

He always has his knife handy and is quick to use it. That's an equaliser and confidence boost. I'm 6'3 220 and would think twice to mess with a Begbie type if I knew.

Begbie in the book usually did not get into that many fights because he was feared and most the other hard ba$$ tards he knew usually from doing prison time together so they did not fight each other. It is said that he did at least have one fight though against someone who was supposed to be pretty handy and he won that. The average guy is not going to stand too much chance against the likes of Begbie because they are not going to be prepared for his aggression or ruthlessness, he is the type of guy you would just want to avoid despite his small stature.

To make a great film you need three things - the script, the script and the script -Alfred Hitchcock

He'd kick your cnut in.

You've obviously never been in a fight before. It's ALWAYS the small, wiry guy who is the absolute psycho and can destroy everyone.

Being hard has nothing to do with your size, it's about how mental you are and how far you are willing to go.

Carlyle nailed it!

Begbie reminds me of a terrier, those dogs believe they're Pits, show no fear even though they're pint sized. Just add psychopathy and a s**t ton of aggression to the mix.
