He should of still gone to prison

No matter how badly someone wrongs you, you should NEVER take the law into your own hands. This film just glorifies vigilantism by giving one extreme example.

There are plenty of other examples of vigilantism that ended up tragically for the "bad guys" because the vigilantis heard wrong or ended up maiming or killing the wrong person. We have laws and justice to protect us and must always be obeyed at all times, and not just when we choose too.

You're obviously childless. And for your children's sake, stay that way

Yeah, he probably should have, but you know...it's John Grisham. Who cares?

No he shouldn't.

Boy, I shouldn't want to be one of YOUR kids. God forbid anything happens and you just sit there and do nothing and leave it all to the justice system. You know, the same justice system that took care of OJ and Casey Anthony. Bravo.

Even if found not guilty of the 2 murder charges, he still should've been charged for weapons violations (I assume there's laws in all states against bringing rifles into government buildings) and for critically injuring Chris Cooper's character, even if his character forgave him. If the insanity plea covers those charges also then he probably would've had to spend time in a mental institution, like Hinkley did. But that wouldn't have made for a good ending.

That's how the real world is I think. You're not just charged with murder, there's a laundry list of other more minor charges as well. Juries can find a defendant not guilty of some but guilty of other charges. I think. I'm not a lawyer and I've never been on trial.

the way i see it, someone should only go to prison if they prove themselves a danger to society. carl lee wasn't a mad man, running around town, shooting people rampant. his daughter was raped and almost died. he had motive. he was only a danger to those who were a danger to him, and he took them out.

It's not just those two people wronged him (raping, beating and left his 10 year old daughter for dead), it's about the system itself failing consistently if you're a minority. If you're part of an oppressed minority and know that justice is never on your side, those people will see things differently than the privileged majority who are part of the oppressive system.

Though I agree he should've doesn't at least 10 years in jail for maiming the cop and killing the 2 in such a public way.
