My thoughts on Thinner...

The only problem I had with this film, was the constant undertone of comedy. The main character always had this comical attitude about him. I'm not sure if that was supposed to be intentional or not. But it is a horror film, so I expected a bit more seriousness.

Is it just me, or does it seem like gypsies in movies have this tendency to always overreact? For example; in Drag Me to Hell, the main character has a curse put on her, all because she fails to help a gypsy in a difficult financial situation. For future reference, I'll remind myself not to anger any gypsies. Lol

Was the main character a psychopath or something? I mean, why was he so ready and willing to give his own wife the cursed pie? What did he have against her? I know technically, it was kind of her fault for the car accident...but still. Why did he hate her so much? I found that part of the story confusing. And even after the daughter ate the pie, he still didn't seem all that remorseful. Did he just hate his family altogether?

When the old gypsy man said "die clean", was he implying that the main character should just accept the curse and die, instead of inflicting the curse onto the others?

1). I agree about the comedy. I think it was unintentional. One problem was the awful fat suit, which made the main character make these awful faces.

2). To be fair, losing a wife to car accident and watching the culprits get away is far worse than getting denied a home loan.

3). The main character was a scumbag in many ways. There was also a big subplot involving the wife’s possible extramarital affair with the doctor, which the movie never verifies or dismisses as false. That’s why he was willing to give her the pie.

4). Yes, the gypsy is saying that the main character should “die clean” by eating the pie, instead of murdering another person in order to live.
