Ultimate nostalgia movie for mid-20s age bracket?

I saw this movie when I was 8. I feel like the people who like this movie grew up with it. People who were older didn't like it, younger didn't get it, and people watching it today think it sucks.

However I feel like myself and many of the peers around my age within a few years give or take, grew up with this film and love it. I think we all remember seeing it in theaters and MJ was the man and we were blown away by real people interacting with beloved cartoon characters (it had been done in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, but not all of us knew that...or if we did it was still awesome).

As I look back at this movie, I just have a fondness for it because I saw it in theaters and just loved it as a kid, and I remember all my friends talking about their favorite parts at school. To this day I am a huge fan of Michael Jordan despite not being an NBA fan, because of this movie. Also I didn't even know how great Bill Murray was when I was that young, now I can go back and while some parts suffer with age, the appreciation for Murray gets better.

I feel like if you are about 23-26 and saw it when it came out, chances are you loved this. Anyone else, chances are you hate it.

Funny how you say no one young today would like it. I thought the same, but my mum is a primary school teacher and she was looking through my dvd collection for kids movies to play for them. I gave her space jam, and every student loved it, despite that they wouldnt know who mj is and even the looney tunes arent what they used to be. They request it every movie time and its the only thing my mum has played for them over the last 2 months.

This movie came out shortly before I turned eight and I still love it just as much now as I did then. I even listen to the Space Jam soundtrack on my way to work lol A little over a year after this movie came out, I got to go to Chicago to see the Bulls play the Pacers (big Michael Jordan and Reggie Miller showdown), and I really appreciated getting the opportunity to see that due to how much I loved this movie

Know the feeling, I saw this film in cinemas when I was 7 years old. Got the film on VHS for Christmas that same year I believe. Watched it endlessly.
Didn't see it again for the better part of 7-10 years.

Watching it again recently with my fiance(who also loves it)made me realize just how funny it still is.

Man, I'm 26 and I was just pondering how long I've had my favorite plush dog...I named her after my favorite Space Jam character (Lola), and I remember standing there in FAO Schwarz at the mall and doing so because I'd recently seen the film in the theater...so that must have been 17 years ago now! But imo, the movie holds up very well. I saw it on TV last year. It's hard to imagine anyone, no matter how old or young, failing to find it delightfully entertaining--or not recognizing Michael Jordan as a famous basketball star! I was never even a fan of professional sports, but I certainly have always loved cartoons (and Bill Murray!) Space Jam has consistently remained a firm favorite, and my #1 Looney Tunes feature. Love everything about it. As a kid, I didn't appreciate Who Framed Roger Rabbit? as much as I do now (perhaps because it was a bit more "adult" and therefore, although we've owned it on VHS for as long as I can recall, my dad was reluctant to put it on much before my brothers and I were of a certain age.) I also just remember that one not holding my attention the entire time, which was never a problem for Space Jam.

I agree, I saw this when I was eight also. I noticed it was on TV the other day and I watched it, just couldn't help it.

You know when i clicked this thread, i dreaded it thinking it would be animazi shlock, but damn if this isn't one of the best threads i've ever seen discussing animation and using the word "nostalgia". The TC actually used it right!

Anyway, i think the movie's era could have some people disliking it now, among the group i referenced earlier especially. It's not that as time goes on that older things CANT be still enjoyed, but sometimes things need to be made interesting to the new growing up generation to want to see them. In some cases this is easy. In some cases not so much. Some of the out of touch ones are going to very well not want to get it and be haters. Given this type of person is more at home on the internet, it's not surprising and IMDB rating can be lower than everyone you know in real life would rate it.

I think this movie is very much enjoyable. Could it not seem as interesting if you don't remember looney tunes or remember when MJ was everywhere? Quite possibly, but i think it probably makes plenty of new fans as new ones are born.

Gamefaqs has a far worse population than IMDB

Exactly. I'm 24 and loved it as a kid. I haven't watched it more than a decade though so I'm kinda scared to watch it now because I feel like I could ruin my childhood for doing so. Anyways you nailed it with your evaluation. This movie is for around our age group. I don't know anyone who didn't like this movie back then. 90's had this charm like no other..
