I know his character was supposed be an abusive drunk and we're supposed to see him as a monster but i'm sorry i just couldn't stop laughing at his lines.

"Hey is this the kind of retard that drools and rub's sh!t in his hair? Cause i'm gonna have a hard time eaten around that kind of thing Linda, same way i'am around antique furniture and midgets, you know that i can't so much as drink a glass of water around a midget"

"And Carl here's liable to bust a spring he's already off balance"

"WE AINT GOT NO GOD DAMN BAND! WE DON"T NEED TO FCKING PRACTICE RANDY! WE DON"T NEED NO SH!T ASS MANAGER EITHER! YOU MOTHERFCKERS YOU'RE ALL JUST A BUNCH OF LOSERS! I"M THE ONLY SANE SUMABTCH HERE!

"I don't like homosexuals and she goes out and buddies up with one so I gotta deal with that. I don't like little wimpy ass kids or mental retards and she got one of each livin' with her."

I swear Dwight Yoakam was awesome in this movie, performance of his carer without a doubt.

Thats what i love about these high school girls, i get older they stay the same age.

He WAS freaking brilliant, it's amazing writing and delivery. Unfortunately, he wasn't quite as good in Panic Room.

Oh shit, he also played the psycho in Panic Room? He was fucking great in that role.

Yoakum has a real gift for playing skin-crawling villains. An unexpected gift for a Country & Western singer 🙃

He was great in this agreed! One of the most underrated villains in cinema history indeed!

I agree he was a real brilliant bad ass and wish he got a nom for supporting. I had to laugh too even though it was sick. Great script from Billy Bob.

How about when Doyle says all this stuff he really means then he thinks they'll believe him when he says "I'm only kidding." Doyle was a time bomb waiting to go off just like Karl.

Absolutely agree. I cry laughing every time I see his scenes. He was frigging hilarious. ..great acting.

I've known my share of real life Doyles. When these guys ( and women) are up and feeling good, they are some of the funniest / smartest best people to be around and watch... They are almost like performers. But when they get into their bad mode ( often triggered by drinking or drugs) WATCH OUT. Meanest / scariest people. Like Tigers... Idk if they are great charmers when they want to be as thats how they rope in victims, or they were once just sensitive / intelligent souls that have been badly damaged.

Totally agree. He's such an unlikeable character that it felt almost felt wrong to laugh at some of things he was saying, so I would have to bite my lip to keep from laughing. But I failed. 

He’s vile. A few lines into his performance I was like ‘Carl, time to step up and do your thing buddy’. Thank god he did 🙏🏻

Doyle made you sick and nervous whenever he appeared, his humour only made him more skin-crawling. Superb writing and phenomenal performance by Yoakum.
