20 years later follow up film

I hate remakes and unneeded sequels.

But I wonder what BBT could do with a script depicting Karl getting out after serving 20 years for Doyle's murder. I'd be curious to hear the dialogue with the kid now an adult talking about how his life changed.

Well, it would be great if BBT could reprise his role as Karl Childers + 20 years. However, serving 20 years confined to a steel prison cell or in an institution for the criminally insane would not seem to be good background for how his life has changed. How much can happen locked away in prison? Probably a lot more than we think, but then we would have to see too much of that part

I think a better set up would be for Karl to be released to a half way house. Now that would have many possibilities as he interacts with house staff and his fellow house members as they try to get back into mainstream life.

I've often thought of a sequel too. I guess in a remake, Vaughn would've died of AIDS shortly after Doyle's death?

I reckon Karl would be institutionalized by now.

It's that man again!!

Make that 30 years.

Yeah I think a ‘sequel’ to this would be great. BBT is in great condition and the kid who played Frank is still acting.

It’s like the reverse of Bad Santa where BBT is retarded and the kid is all there.

I’d love to see how Karl is holding up. MmmHmm.

The first movie had a simple but effective story of a guy who felt uncomfortable with "freedom" and who saw an opportunity to return to the lifestyle he was used to while improving—if not literally saving—the lives of a boy, the boy's mother, and their friend played by Ritter.

I can't think of any plot for a sequel that wouldn't either be less-than-captivating (e.g. Karl learns carpentry and becomes content with life outside a mental hospital) or makes the character into a joke (e.g. Karl finds himself in the big city and has to defend himself against criminals or ends up in a bunch of lousy comedy scenes.)
