I never understood why critics hated it so much.

Usually, if critics are unanimous in saying a movie sucks, there's a reeeeeal good chance they're right. But I never got why this movie was blasted so hard by them. Steve Martin is actually really funny in this movie, Dan Aykroyd is better than average and Phil Hartman, while pretty much wasted comedically, actually makes a pretty good bad guy. Also, there really are some genuinely funny moments in this film, and a big supporting cast that really helps the movie roll along. Okay, the whole hover-tank thing is pretty stupid, I admit. But still... funny ass movie.

I thought it was funny, I find much of the stuff the critics like to be garbage, they watch so many movies that they are now bored of them and I'm betting their scoring is subject to how their day is going more than the actual viewing.

Wasn't me

It's a decent funny movie..
It's entertainment.
It's not 'citizen kane' nor 'Third Man'..
Get over it..

As Bugs use to say 'What'a bunch of Ma-rooooons!'

It's just not that funny of a film. It could have been better, but wasn't.

It's better than the second half of Stripes.

Not all major critics hated it, Roger Ebert gave it a 3 star review, praising Steve Martins portrayal of Bilko and all the subtle humor sprinkled throughout the movie

Talent isn't appreciated anymore. Steve Martian has taken alot of roles I didn't find funny, but this was one where he shined.
