I know that was the initial plan, but seems weird to think about now. Wonder how that would have gone. I like Drew Barrymore well enough, but she's so comedic I'd be waiting for her to break out laughing. Alternatively I feel like she might've ended up seeming sinister, and maybe been a GF herself.

You're right abut the comedy thing. Campbell was a blank slate as far as I was concerned when I saw her in the first one, I had no preconceptions. I think it worked out for the best (much as I've always been a bit in love with Drew Barrymore).
