Were teenagers older looking in the 1990s?

The actors playing teenagers in this movie are in their 20s and roughly the same ages as the actors playing teens in Scream 5 and 6, but they look much older by comparison. Were teens and people in their 20s just simply older-looking than the same age group of today, and if so, why? Or is there more to it?

Probably because they weren't obsessed with walking around trying to look like they'd just stepped out of a make-up chair so that they can look sooo good on social media.
