The Rock is DEFINITELY a James Bond Movie

I don’t think there needs to be so much attention paid to the dates and stuff, since the Bond films exist on a floating timeline. It wouldn’t make sense that Bond is locked up for 3 decades after the events of Diamonds Are Forever, as there were still 13 films afterwards with Bond going on future missions. It makes more sense that everything from Dr No to Die Another Day took place over 10-15 year period, which means Bond was apprehended by the CIA after the events of DAD, and then released during The Rock. Never Say Never Again is also just a remake of Thunderball, so it would still fit in the timeline.

It definitely isn’t. First of all Mason acts nothing like James Bond, secondly Mason would have been in prison while Bond was saving the world from Blofeld, Kananga, Scarimanga, Stromberg, Drax, Kristatoes, Kamal Kahn, Max Zorin, Koskov, Sanchez, Trevelyn, etc

reply

i watched 2/3rds of that video

It very cleverly integrates all the events in the connery bond films into all the info on mason's life, with specific dates

But then conveniently discards all subsequent bond films because , as you say , a 30 yr prison stretch wouldnt fit

reply

You can have you little fan fiction all you want but all of the Bond actors are playing the same character and there is no way Mason is Bond.

reply

Mason is more of a Bond ripoff than Bond himself.

Seriously, the filmmakers were definitely playing with the idea of having a Bond type in their movie, but no more than playing. Because everyone knows that Bond was still secret agenting away the whole time, not in jail.

reply

Exactly and the only explanation that could connect the dots in the direction that they are the same person would be if James Bond is a code name and anyone who pays attention to the series knows that’s impossible.

People who think Bond and Mason are the same person don’t know what they are. talking about . I’ll admit there may be some similarities and allusions to Bond in The Rock but that’s all they are

reply

Who's to say "John Mason" is the guy's real name?

But yeah, the guy is definitely not Bond, because the filmmakers didn't have the rights to Bond and we all know Bond is immortal anyway. But maybe he's kinda supposed to be an 00X agent...

reply

The Rock does not take place in the same universe, at the very best he’s an homage to Bond but even that falls apart because whoever Mason is acts nothing like Bond
