How in the HELL does this movie have a 4.8 on IMDB?! It's one of Van Damme's greatest movies ever! How does a movie as good as this not have something above a 5?!

Agree. Watched it yesterday and it was as good as i remembered it. Lots of action sequences troughout the movie and Van Damme plays alright. Henstridge alone deserves 5 points so the movie should at least have a 6-6.5.

I usually refrain from commenting on a movies ranking's because different people look for and expect different things from a movie. That said, I have never been more shocked to see a flick with such a low rating. This movie has everything an action movie needs...shootouts, fighting, car chases, suspense, and even sex. JCVD is never going to win an Oscar, but for goodness sakes, this might be some of his best acting. I usually rank any movie that's watchable a 5 and was expecting this one to be around 6.5 or so.
shareCould not have been said better. Ringo Lam did a great job giving the movie that melancholic mood. Van Damee had to fight or to look very sad. And he managed. No question, "Maximum Risk" is Jean-Claude's best movie. (Just a very little step ahead towards "Hard Target". My opinion.)
Ok, "JCVD" is very nice and very funny. And van Dame showed some gutts to do it.
Let's see what's coming next.

shareIt doesn't deserve a 4.8. It had good acting, great complex and involved story from across 3 continents. The second time Van Damme went to the TWIN BROTHER plot and this was far better than the other. Action scenes were some of the best (car chases in particular were well done). And the characters were great. And the lead roles - Van Damme has improved over the years in becoming a bit more mellow. The requisite components were in this to give it an 8 in my book. Easily one of Van Damme's best. And Ringo Lam directed. It should be good in that case.
What about that big Russian dude that looked like Duke Nukem? Wow...a good match for Mr. Van Damme. Finally a character he could not just chop or slap out of the way.

Yep, this is probably the only JCVD movie I voted an 8. Can't understand why people wouldn't like it, as far as action movies go this is way above standard.

Well personally I think that's a very appropiate score. I'm a huge action movie fan and I love Van Damme but this film was just so boring. Mediocre action and a slow pace. Just a waste of time and effort.
shareI have to agree with MovieMaster95. I'm also a big Van Damme fan, but this film left me cold. The villains were a joke, the action sequences were flat, the pace was too slow and the romantic subplot just made the film drag on. Overall, a huge bore.
