Handing Matilda over

This is bugging me, but at the end, when Matilda's parents handed over Matilda to Miss Honey by signing a form, were they allowed to do that?

There is more paperwork involved than that. And in some cases a test to see how well the child does with the newer parent/ gaurdian. They are indeed allowed to do that. In Matilda's case, it's exactly what should have happened.

Not legally. But who was going to dob them in? Miss Honey ends up the principal and Matilda's teacher, so there's very little chance of anyone complaining about paperwork.
