Why doesn't anyboy like this movie?

It was by no means great but it was OK.Why does everybody have a problem with this one?

reply

Because the studio butchered the film, re-edited it, re-dubbed Angelique and took it away from the director. The film is a mess, the plot is full of holes, the story makes no sense. It WAS a decent sequel until then but the studipo tore it apart and stitched it together in a mess. This movie belongs to no one, it isn't what Clive Barker wanted, nor Peter Atkins or Doug Bradley and is frankly, a really bad patchwoork job.

I have considered just getting the first four hellraisers because hellraiser 4 is the last good movie in the series, thats just my oppinion. the rest are not very good at all. they are too boring and somtimes confusing. the only one of the new ones I sort of like is inferno.

reply

For some strange reason I actually like parts of this botched movie a lot. Or rather, I should say I think the premise was quite good, mostly ruined in execution, but still, parts are really decent. A real "could of/should of" situation.

reply

That's how I feel. There are good things about this movie, things that hint at what could have been.

What do you think this is, a signature? It's a way of life!

I don't know what it is, its just missing something

About 30 minutes of cut and incomplete footage? ;)

No one likes it because it's terrible. One of the worst movies I've ever seen in my life. Literally.

reply

I love it -- thought it was great. I like it as much as any entry in the series.

Is everyone in this house a total nutzoid or is it just me?

reply

i thought it was a lot better than that crappy cliche Hellraiser 5

reply

i'm watching it for the first time at the moment, and so far i think it's alot better than part 3 at least. pinhead is way better, theres shafts of blue light everywhere, the effects are nice, gory and creative, and the plot is certainly a cut above.
it's a shame that the studio stepped in, but i doubt we'll ever see a true directors cut. for what its is, i'd say it's a worthy sequel that at least set out to undo some of the damage caused by the ridiculous third part.

reply

I think it compliments the first 3 fairly well. It's pretty useless otherwise.

If you go in knowing what to expect, I don't think you'll be letdown. I already knew it was basically butchered and what have you, and you can see the faults, but it still holds up well enough.

I actually liked this "Hellraiser' better than any other in the series! Angelique was a wonderful addition to the series, and I wished she'd been around longer, and sooner.
Yes, the film is a bit choppy and has some flaws but I enjoyed it. The ending was a fitting ending for Pinhead.

"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

Beats me, I actually like it as one of my favorites with Hellraiser 2. I prefer this one over the 1st and 3rd movies because Pinhead has much better dialog and screentime in this one.

reply

Yes, it wasn't great in any way, but still a decent gore flick, not worthy of so much hate.

its been a long time since i saw this one but i remember it was one of my faves ,im trying to remember was it this one that the 2 cops are twins and get twisted together ?

reply

Yes, it's that one.

Boycott movies that involve real animal violence! (and their directors too)

Because the story sucks. It's like these people didn't even watch the first three films. Pinhead isn't like that. The box isn't supposed to do that. The cenobites aren't around to do that. The origins of the box aren't explained. Angelique's rules make no sense.

good art direction and gore though.

"These people"... as in the exact same writer as Hellbound and Hell On Earth? Actually, to be fair, the person who re-wrote Atkins script when Dimension re-cut and changed the entire film clearly wasn't as good and didn't get stuff. But your points are a bit vague, and I saw very little wrong with Pinhead in this film, beyond the reshoots/edits messing up the narrative side of things.

Pinhead cares about nothing but killing people. In the first two films he was simply carrying out the orders of the box/leviathan. In the third he cares about nothing but chaos because he is freed from the box and his human side. In the fourth film he has both his human side and is under the will of the box, but he still wants to kill everything.

In the other Hellraiser movies when someone opens the box the cenobites come, tear them apart, take their soul away, and then leave. In Bloodlines when someone opens the box, Pinhead kills them and then just hangs out and chills, doing whatever he wants until someone sends him back.

Angelique's rules make no sense. She'll do whatever her summoner wants, but if the summoner stands in the way of hell's will, then she'll kill them? Well what if it's "hell's will" that she doesn't follow her master's orders? Then she can do whatever she wants. Her rules basically are "she'll do what you ask of her until she feels otherwise."

Pinhead emerged and stayed, within the series, because of the presence of Lemarchand. The comics and other sources show the rules are not hard and fast and there are special circumstances, in this case, the bloodline. It's not about killing everything, only really the middle story suggests that and that's to do with a giant Lament. In HR3 he's AGAINST Hell, in Hr4 he's working for it, he doens't want the Box to be free of it, he doens't go round slaughtering nightclubs... he has a specific purpose. Or at leats he did before the studio re-cut it to shreds.

"A summoned demon is yours to command... unless you stand in Hell's way"... that's clearly very specific in terms of something that's vital for Hell. Not wanting to be commanded is not enough. That's why, as intended, De L'Isle was killed for attempting to murder Lemarchand. And Jacques aged to death for getting in the way of the bloodline. of course, why he gets away with ehr killing Lemarchand in the first palce makes no sense but thats studio reshoots for you...
