Was anyone else influenced...

...to become a spy by this movie when they were younger?

I was, I got myself a notebook and wrote down pointless *beep* in the hopes some grand conspiricy or mystery would come my way.

Yes. I didn't want to be a spy but I did want to record everything I saw, thought, experienced. To this day I still do.

OMG yes! I LOVED this film as a kid and I remember getting a notebook and writing down things about the people I knew, just like Harriet did because I wanted to be a spy like her. I even did the whole going round my town writing down pointless things I saw hoping the same thing. I even tried tomato sandwiches, however that didn't last long because I hated tomatoes. The good old days.

This movie was my childhood. Harriet was my hero. I remember getting a notebook and snooping around my neighborhood. I even tried to have the same penmanship as Harriet's. I dunno; I was a very impressionable kid, especially by movies. I could practically recite every line in the movie. Just a half hour ago, it was on HBO, so that's why I came to this board. So many memories. . . . The early and mid '90s were incredible.

Yeah I just watched it on HBO too.
I remeber a couple of months ago my dad found one of my old diaries. The first line was:
"My name is Ayanna... Ayanna the Spy."
LMFAO. And then I went on to describe a couple of things, but that seriously only lasted for a day.
But even now I want to buy those cheap spy toys that I see in stores. It's kinda embarassing, but it's my guilty pleasure. I bought a bunch of books on spys and tried to copy them. It still intrigues me so much,
but I've given up all hope of being a spy. Now I just want to be a writer :]
I too went around my neighborhood with my sister and cousin and made up interesting stories about my neighboors because they seriously weren't half as interesting as the people in the movie.
I think it just taps into our longing for adventure. The world seems so big when we are very small.

I am so glad i'm not the only one to have done this.... thinking back to it is so weird pahaha. I had a spy kit on a belt, a big coat, note book, everything! I did get caught quite early on though when spying on other kids playing in the street haha. I even went as far as sneaking into the scout hut down my road and climbing up the guttering to peer into the window now that's dedication lol.

My best friend and I would dress up like her, carry flashlights, trinkets - it was fun. But we didn't get mean to another, we just felt happy to take interest in everyday household things that became "Spy related."

After seeing this movie, I started more than one spy notebook. It was so much fun! I drew a magnifying glass on the front and entitled the notebook: 'My Spy Notebook.' I probably never finished it, though. I wanted to be a spy like Harriet and write everything down! :) I didn't want to miss a trick x

reply

Absolutely. I got a notebook and would just start spying on friends, family, neighbors, random people and sign with lexi the spy lol.
