i dont care what anyone says...this is a amazing film , loved it since i was a child.
Ive been in a situation just like Amy myself, having to adopt an abandoned canadian goose.. her name was honey ...and it was magical....this film is a a lot better than all killing, sexist and obviously untrue *beep* they have on nowadays....magical and original...will always be a favourite :)

The movie started out ok, but then went downhill in a hurry.
They pulled out every tired old movie cliche they could find, and then threw in some more. It was ridiculous, and had almost no resemblance to the actual true story. That's called lazy screen writing.
This is one of my favorite movies ever. I've loved it since i was little, and am actually watching it right now.
I also adore Anna Paquin as an actress.

So what! This is entertaining and a feel good movie-- not a documentary.

Or the same as "Hoosiers" was inspired by the real victory of a very small Indiana school's team in the state basketball tournament, but changed all the people's names, the town's name, and even the year it happened.
"Fly Away Home" was never intended to be a documentary.
I'm watching it again now on cable. Been years since I saw it last.
I spent a good deal of my life, studying aerospace engineering, and got a degree in it.
I also have raised birds, and managed to get them to breed, and know the experience of having a brood hatch in front of my eyes. I also know what it is like to gain their trust, so they do not fear you.
So, this movie has a place in my heart as well. I love birds and airplanes, and this movie combines both, in such an excellent story.
You are so right, it's an amazing film. I watched it in 1998 when it aired on German TV, I was 20 then, and I had a lump in my throat for several days after watching the film! Only "The Wonderful Adventures of Nils" managed to do that, also a movie with geese and a kid travelling with geese, only available in Europe and Japan, not in Canada or USA which is a pity.
You are lucky having adopted a goose. The movie inspires me to get my own geese. I have already had the opportunity to cuddle with a goose for hours, it was magical and enchanting, just like "Fly Away Home". I felt so much love then!
Fly Away Home is a movie that triggers warm feelings and tears right from the start. I wonder if there is another movie or series (besides Fly Away Home and Wonderful Adventures of Nils" that can manage this. Any tips and hints for similar movies are always welcome! :)
The 1960's film has an english version. I doubt it was ever marketed in North America though. Any DVDs, that might be out there, are prolly region 2 / PAL.
We watched a 16mm copy in school and read selected parts of the book in class.
I did not save the boy, God did. I only CARRIED him.
Not bad! I've watched the 1962 movie version of Nils which was a very nice version. I've also watched the new 2011 version of Nils Holgersson they made in Sweden and Germany, although this version is quite cheap. I prefer the 80s Anime version by far.
shareI watched this again on VHS. I remember really liking this when I saw it the first time.
And then I saw it again and it is just so boring. Like really, really boring. It's just like the featured song at the beginning and end- really long and drawn out without much happening.
The best character was the uncle and he has woefully small portion of screentime in the almost 2-hour long film. Whoever was in charge of cutting the film did not make it flow well.
