Revisited after 20 years, not as good as I remembered it

I remembered this film a lot better in my head.
I've been on IMDb for years and saw I'd rates it 8/10
Recommended to the wife we watch it
We both thought it was crap, 4/10.

Tastes change, expectations change
I honestly can't remember what I found good about it,

To boil it down, it was like a long episode of Columbo without a good plot, but better cinematography.
And lots of annoying 'ya's

Wow. Amazed at some of the comments here (not necessarily the OP) about how this movie is not logical, or realistic, or about how the kidnapping is awkward, and it's winter, etc...

I could be wrong, but I think they're missing the point. It's a comedy. A "dark comedy," not a "ha-ha" comedy.

But to the original poster's point...yes, there are many movies which I have revisited after a while and was a little disappointed at how they'd aged. This is not one of them. I've watched it, in whole or in part, probably 8 or 10 times, and I could probably watch it again another half-dozen times. But that's just the kind of film it is, I guess. There are films which you like immediately after seeing, some that you dislike, and some that you are just not sure about...(You know the kind: "I think I liked it, but I'm not sure...maybe I didn't like it?")

In '96, I walked out of the theater after seeing this one with a smile. It returns every time I see it again.

I can understand you completely. You arent the same person you were 20 years ago. I use to enjoy the movie Mallrats (saw it as a young teen) and was excited to show my fiance the movie after 18 years of my first watching it...and it wasnt the same, I just simply did not like it anymore.

And oddly enough, I watched Hot Fuzz the first two times and didnt care for it. Then I watched it a third go and it became my favorite comedy movie! Have watched Hot Fuzz dozens of times now in the past several years.
