Mr. Knightly or Mr. Darcy?
What do you think?!
Mr. Darcy by far. I am so in love with him. Mr. Knightley is very kind and quite handsome, but for my money nothing can match the dark, brooding Mr. Darcy. Sigh.
shareAh, but which Mr. Darcy? While I think Laurence Olivier was quite handsome, Matthew MacFadyen is .

I think I'll prefer the perfect mix of both. They're both men of such outstanding character... and then there's Colonel Brandon and Edward Ferrars from S&S!

I like both. I swooned over Matthew MacFayden in P&P05. Him coming across that meadow at the end, as corny as it was, made me wish I was Eliza. But, Jeremy Northam as Mr. Knightly...irresistable!!!

Jeremy Northam and Mr. Knightly is my ideal man. Sigh. Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy comes in at a close second. Matt McFayden was ridiculous; he seemed constipated.

Mr Knightly by far, even I love Mr Darcy (who does not) I prefer Knightly. He is handsome, down to earth and just knows what to say in the right situations.
It's so sweet how he dislikes Mr Churchill just because he thinks that Emma might fall in love with him.
But I guess there are no men out there that are either like Knightly or Darcy so we'll just have to stick to our dreams.
Oh, you are killing me!!!
Unfortunately, I would have to say Colin Firth's Darcy (obviously based on my name ID). However, I do love Jeremy's portrayal of Mr. Knightly above all the other Knightly's. Now if Colin and Jeremy could be in the same film, all would be right in the world. lol
Hi Colinforever!
If you want a true passionate man inside and outside the bedroom Hands down Colin Firth's version of Mr. Darcy.
Now I have to go back to the Colin Firth board. :)
Thanks!

Whew!!!! Thanks for agreeing. I can only picture Colin in the role even though have watched the other versions. No one else compares.
Yes, back tot he Colin board.
It has to be Mr Darcy ,he became the greatest prince charming of all time for me eversince Colin Firth became Mr Darcy.

Darcy
Colin FIrth's the best.

Jeremy Northam's Knightley for me ~ much more approachable, and probably my favorite Austin man. However, I'm a Colonel Brandon fan (Alan Rickman) through and through, haha! Although I have to say, Rupert Penry-Jones in the latest version of 'Persuasion' is truly fabulous as well.
Here's my two cents on men like Austin's heros: The more popular they get, the more modern day women will wish for them. The more we wish and talk and hope for men like them, the more modern day men will pay attention. They seriously want to live up to what we want. They will follow our subtle cues on what is acceptable and what is not. Not to mention that we simply need to raise our sons differently, if we want to see some change.
well now - aren't you the deep one! so very well said!!!
shareKnightley, Knightley, Knightley!
Whilst Darcy is obviously very sexy - all brooding handsomeness and intensity - I love Knightley's warmth, wit and gentlemanly qualities.
You'd be able to have a laugh with him, as well as an intellectual discussion.
I just think he's lovely.

I know writers who use sub-text and they're all cowards!
Mr. Darcy, no contest. Mind you, I've only seen the Matthew Macfayden version. I've been trying to obtain the others since. All in all, Emma never really drew me in. Less time was spent on Mr. Knightly. Mr. Darcy was more complete, and more... vulnerable? Perhaps if there'd been any sort of conflict with Mr. Knightly, I'd be more attached to him.
shareI think all Austen heroes have a certain shine to them, though maybe not Edmond Bertram in Mansfield Park (I didn't like him much - and MP is my least favourite Austen novel). However, I'd have to say Mr Darcy. I love the way he turned himself around and admonished himself for being a snob. lol. Mr Knightley is great too but not in the same league as Darcy. Although, Colonel Brandon could be a good competitor.
Well at this rate I'll never make my mind up!!
I would say Mr. Tillney from Northanger abbey he is by far the funniest Austen hero, but I guess I would have to say knightly
shareOK, first of all, Colin Firth is a better Darcy than Matthew Macfadden. But I would have to choose Mr. Knightly (it bothers me that they never say his first name).
shareDarcy is the one for me :)
And today I have made a revelation! The problem I have with Colin as Darcy (and I've just discovered this today. Before I couldn't for the life of me understand why I couldn't admire him as much as everyone else does and I do love him in other films immensely) is that he reminds me too much of my GRANDMOTHER when she is in a bad mood. Their facial expressions, even the way they talk, are eerily similar. Creeeepy.
The way I picture Darcy when I read the book is a mixture of all the actors I've seen so far, Lawrence, Colin (obviously the qualities that don't remind me of my grandmother, eck), and Matthew.
he reminds me too much of my GRANDMOTHER when she is in a bad mood
Yep Captain Wentworth is definitely up there too!
shareI like Mr. Darcy better than Mr. Knightley better too. The latter seemed a bit too perfect for me. I've seen both this movie and P & P (2005) recently so the portrayals are still fresh in my mind. I became a fan of Matthew Macfadyen due to his role as Tom in MI5/Spooks (seasons 1 & 2, part of 3). This was a chance to see him in something different and he did a good job of it.
shareMatthew Macfadyen som Mr Darcy är den absolut bästa.
share I'd have to say Mr. Darcy. Only at the moment 'cause I haven't had the fortune to see Emma. >.<
Or any of the other films.
I have though seen both of the P & P movies (1940 and 2005) and I'd have to say that Laurence Olivier win's hands down. He is more handsome in my opinion than Matthew Macfadyen.
Not to say that Matthew's acting was horrid or anything. Lovely acting. :)
He was...intriguing, mostly so because it was the first of the two movies I'd seen.
They both did a marvelous job bringing Mr. Darcy to life. Smashing :D
I haven't seen Colin Firth's portrayal either. So I'm afraid I am very limited on my opinion's in the matter.
I just thought I'd add my two cent's. :)
I want to see the other movies badly! Not to mention reading them ALL!
I WANT MY OWN MR. DARCY!!!!! :( Poo... :p
~Frizzy
For me personally, I would have to say Mr. Knightly (in all his adaptions: Book, Mark Strong, and Jeremy Northam). He is someone I would fall in love with. He is low key, laid back, has a good sense of humor (where as Mr. Darcy has nearly none), and has the best smile (the two actors that played him were spot on and awfully handsome!) I love Darcy, but I would have much more fun with Knightly.
