very strange, did anyone else notice this?

i know this has no relation to the story, but i find it curious how much of dragonheart the movie relates to Harry Potter movies. Jason Isaacs is in it, and He was Lucious Malfoy. He plays a character Lord Felton, like Tom Felton, who plays Draco---also the name of the dragon/ sean connery. then of course Einon is played by David Thewlis, who plays Professor Lupin in the 3rd movie.
just a thought....

Holy crap, you're right! I can't believe I never noticed that! I mean, I'm a fan of both movies, so you'd think I would have...well, now I have to go and punish myself for my stupidity!

HAHA. I just had to comment... because before I even read your post about this, I came to the exact same conclusion and just told all my friends who are into Harry Potter. I remember seeing the first movie (having not read the books yet) and when Draco introduced himself as Draco, I was like "...that was the dragon from Dragonheart." and today I was looking at the cast and everything for the movie, and I hadn't realized both Jason Isaacs and David Thewlis were in it (I haven't seen the movie in a long time) and I was flipping out. I guess it wasn't that exciting but I thought it was so neat, haha.

I know! My favorite character is Lupin, and I wanted to make sure the guy playing him would be good, so I looked up movies of his that would be on TV soon. So, back in May, I was able to watch a bit of 'Dragonheart' before I had to go to my friend's party. I thought it was hilarious with all the references to Harry Potter. Also, Julie Christie is in this movie (Einon's mom) and she plays Madam Rosmerta in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

This tends to happen with a lot of the actors in the HP movies. Many of them have worked with each other in different movies, and once I made a list of all these oddities of David Thewlis' other movies that forshadowed him playing Lupin. Though Dragonheart is always the funniest with the most relations to Harry Potter. It's great. :)

my three favorite characters in all of the harry potter films are harry ron and hermione
you ever notice how strange that their teacher professor snape gets when he says those silly lines
for example; "fame isn't everything, is it, mr. potter"
that is a bit weird for a professor to be telling a student that
i mean, do anybody notice the humor in all of snape's lines

and, also, i have seen dragonheart several times
if for any various reason that both draco and the dragon hunter guy did some spinoff film that does more comedy stunts
then that would be a good laugh

because ever hear of the classic phrase ; "when life gives you lemons, give lemonade"
well,here's my dragonheart spin on it ;
if you give a dragon lemons to squeeze, would you give him lemonade

thank you

I think the award for most (actor) relations to Harry Potter goes to Sense and Sensibility:
Prof. Snape = Col. Brandon = Alan Rickman
Prof. Trelawny = Elinor = Emma Thompson
The Fat Lady (in the portrait) = Mrs. Jennings = Elizabeth Spriggs
Cornelius Fudge = Sir John = Robert Hardy
Madame Pomfrey = Mrs. Dashwood = Gemma Jones

You guys do know that Dragonheart came out in 1996, and Harry Potter was published in 1998 right? There are no Harry Potter references in Dragonheart for the fact that Dragonheart is before Harry Potter. There could be Dragonheart References in Harry Potter but not the other way around.

Also, the word Draco is latin for Dragon. As for Jason and David, it would make sense that they have worked together since they are both UK actors and J.K. wanted the cast to be 99.9999...# UK actors.

You can also say that HP has referenced the movie Willow because Warwick Davies plays Professor Flitwick, in the same vein you can say that HP has referenced Return of the Jedi because Warwick played Wickett.

So please... just get the facts straight, where as Harry Potter is a great story as I am a fan... not every movie is going to reference Harry Potter, especially the movies made before 1998.

I believe that most of the poster ARE aware of the fact that HP was released later than Dragonheart (especially considering these obviously are people aware enough to notice the details this whole thread is about!).
That wasn't the point.
References might have been a wrong word to use. Similiarites? Repetative common links between the two? Whatever suits you - it's a nitpick to hang up on words as such, and only shows how easy it is to underestimate peoples intelligence (or vice versa). Tsk.

There was also Julie Christie who played Madam Rosmerta in the 3rd movie.

I spotted that right away, since Thewlis is so damn good. I was watching the third Potter and I was thinking that, and then a week later Dragonheart was on Spike or something, so yeah.

Holy crap that is freaky!

Hey, I'm pretty sure I did that too. They looked remarkably alike, whereas with Einon, I was confused because I expected him to look more like his younger character.

And unless I'm mistaken, the dog you see being tossed some food in the banquet hall (shortly before Kara tries to kill Einon) is the same kind of dog as Fang, Hagrid's dog! :-)

All this - freaky coincidence, or book writers and screen writers drawing inspiration from past works? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Wow! Looks like I'm not the only person to notice this! I was just sitting here thinking about it and thought "I should make a post about this", but it was already done. lol
