Worst of the Crow sequels? Worse!

Probably on eof the worst movies of all TIME. I remember I was 15 when I first saw this. My friend at the time was all about it and thought it was better than the original. needless to say, he wasn't very bright and had a drug problem. How anyone could enjoy this hot bubblin' garbage is beyond me (unless you are totally on crack)...The only enjoyment I got out of it was laughing at the horrific acting, especially that of Iggy Pop. Some of the worst dialogue in film history is gracefully preserved within this celluloid dump hole. "Bad news. Someone torched the lab in Manchester and Spider Monkey's a *beep* crispy critter." LOL. Thank you, Iggy. And poor Mia Kirschner. Thank god she got to redeem herself in later movies. Her performance in this film is about as engaging as a yeast infection on prom night. And vincent Perez. Why he was asked to d the follow up to Lee's explosive performance is one of the greatest cinematic disaster-decisions ever. He's good looking...but a total bore. If I were in charge, I would've burned the script and started over with a female lead character. That would've lessened the backlash of fans of the original who were critical of Lee being "replaced" by Perez. And it probably would have been a lot more bad ass.

Having recently rewatched The Crow and it's sequels I can not understand how you think this is the worst of the sequels. Are you sure you've seen The Crow: Wicked Prayer? To me that is by far the worst. City Angles for lack of story had some amazing art direction and style. If a movie looks good I can forgive quit a bit of its other flaws. Iggy Pop was incredible to watch and came across to me as purely insane. I thought Mia Kirschner looked amazing and for the most part served her purpose in the film. On a whole I was entertained by this film. There were more than enough cool scenes and visuals to keep me happy and without the benefit of "crack".

it was butchered by the studio, the uncut version sounds like it might have been as good as the crow part 1. Btw I think Judah Earl is byfar one of the coolest villains right beside top dollar.

You must not have seen The Crow Wicked Prayer aka Emo Crow

reply

Yeah thats true. I love all the crow movies but not Wicked prayer. the only good part about that one is the actors were cute. City of Angels is my favorite of the crow movies.

You can only be young once. But you can always be immature.

reply

PLEASE Salvation and wicked prayer were rubbish! This one was a diff kind of Crow. Even if Brandon had lived, highly unlikely he would have done the 2nd movie, as I know the Crow isnt a super hero but a vigilante concept about revenge. There was even a book done years ago about a female Crow who was a police officer. Was supposed to me made into a movie but never came to light. As much as I love BL but Vincent perez wasnt that bad either, he was just different. I personally loved the 2nd movie.

reply

Heh, this was different, TOO different, even WITHOUT being hacked up by the studio, it would have been sacrilegeous to the concept of the crow. Sure it might have been interesting, but still no good.

reply

I love how people call the Crow sequels "sacrilegious". Why? Simply because Brandon Lee died making the first one. While I loved Brandon, and loved his portrayal, the Crow existed long before Brandon made his movie. And here's the thing: I consider the original to be "sacrilegious" because it departed so heavily from the original comic, and in doing so, changed James O'Barr's original themes and message to another Hollywood action flick that happened to have a little more emotion than the norm. Let CoA be, it was a troubled film because of people like you that could not accept a different take. Hence the studio gutting a good story into the mess the film released as.

I guess the meek can inherit the Earth now. It looks like the stupid aren't doing anything with it.

reply

I read the comic, the themes and ideas were still very much there, though they did change a bit. As for the second film being Sacrilegious, I did not make that statement because Brandon Lee was not in it, I made that statement because the the statement the film was making, and the way the process itself worked, contradicted and in some ways was the opposite of what the original stated.

"City of Angels is my favorite of the crow movies."

Mine too, it seemed to be the most faithful to the graphic novel and was the best visually too. The first one is definitely following close behind, though. I didn't really care for the third and as for the fourth, well....

That may very well be the most ironic statment ever made.

LOL at "EMO Crow" I liked that movie but your comment is very accurate

Iggy Pop was awesome in this movie. Perez didn't follow Lee's performance, Ashe is a very different character from Eric and Perez did a great job of doing that.

I enjoy this movie. There are two major problems with it -- 1) Richard Brooks can't decide if he wants to be campy or creepy and 2) the studio completely butchered the film.

You first saw this when you were fifteen -- when was that, a week ago? Because this post reads as if it were written by a fifteen-year-old.

And the worst of the Crow films? Obviously, you never saw Salvation or Wicked Prayer.

reply

I would be ashamed of anyone who saw Salvation. I'm ashamed I watched the whole thing. Thank god for torrents. City of Angels was a masterpiece compared to Salavation. I don't think Mabius could scare a 4 year old. He was a horrible choice. At least City has style. They all would make Brandon roll over in his grave.

Hmm. Well, mckain, I won't go so far as to call you dumb, maybe just ignorant. City of Angels, by FAR, isn't the worst Crow movie, as my compatriots have mentioned. But, you went so far as to say probably the worst movie of all time.

See, that's just ignorant of the multitude of possibilities out there. Trust me, City of Angels doesn't even come CLOSE to such classics as ZARDOZ, which leaves one with the unclean feeling of scooping one's own eyeballs out after sitting through the whole thing. Look it up. It stars Sean Connery. They spent the whole budget of the movie getting Sean Connery. I think, even at the expense of plot writers and editors.

There are more... Try Dracula 3000 for a sequel. Or, better yet, either of the Dungeons and Dragons movies. Yes, there was a sequel. No, you don't want to watch the sequel.

In the end, City of Angels was well made, and close to the comic book, which they are all supposed to be based on. Yes, it left something missing. But it wasn't as bad as you said. Not even close.

reply

I'd be hard pressed to call it amazing, but it's certainly not the worst of the Crow sequels. Try Wicked Prayer.

The second is pretty terrible but the third and fourth are abysmal.

Crow: Wicked Prayer.
Crow: Salvation.

This is probably the second best Crow movie (but it's still nowhere near the first one).

reply

op is wrong about this being the worst of the crow sequels. even with the studio
editing things we still had a good follow up. vincent perez gave crow a slightly diffrent story that was still grim

No no nannette, this was a masterpiece compared to --->Crow: Wicked Prayer with Edward Furlong, Tara Reid , Machete & Emmanuelle Chriqui and David Boreanaz / Angel , was deep, deep in the poo-pile compared to this, it literally wreeked. The worst acting given the cast have ever seen, Furlong was a disaster.

You can only show 15guys with machine guns at point blank not doing any damage & must say the fight with the asian girl was one of those really piss poor fake cutaway fights,at least find an actress that knows some kung fu, pluheeze. (it was so phony she should have stripped to make up for it)

Izzy Pop was actually OK in this, fit right in, but as always, glad when any Crow film ends.
